Conveners
O-01 Sun. 25 May [J] Earth and Planetary Science Top Seminar
Convs. Yasuhito Sekine, Atsushi Okamoto, Kazuhisa Goto, Tatsuhiko Hara
O-02 Sun. 25 May [J] Synergy of Earth Science and Art
Convs. Yuki Araki, Takashi Toyofuku, Yukiko Nagai, Shota Ishida
This session is an innovative attempt to integrate philosophical perspectives of art into the advancement of science. Researchers in Earth sciences collaborate with artists from diverse fields to explore new challenges and cultivate the ability to express the outcomes in various forms. By showcasing actual examples of collaboration, we aim to gain new insights emerging from the interaction between Earth sciences and art, and foster co-creation of academic innovation.
O-03 Sun. 25 May [J] Everything you need to know about marine plastics pollution
Convs. Hitoshi Nakai, Atsuhiko Isobe, Shinichiro Kako, Hirofumi Hinata
Many of Japan's coastlines, which once boasted beautiful scenery, are now polluted by discarded plastic that washes up on the shore every day. Not only does it ruin the coastal scenery, but it also causes deaths of seabirds and sea turtles who mistakenly eat it. It is also known that pollution extends not only to coastal areas, but also to ocean areas far from land. In this session, we will hear about the current state of marine plastic pollution and the latest findings on the behavior of discarded plastic in the ocean.
O-04 Sun. 25 May [J] Can you survive natural disasters by learning in school?
Convs. Hiroo Nemoto, Miwa Kuri, Yutaka TAKAHASHI, Ryuta YAMAMOTO
Secondary school and undergraduate students! Can disaster education at schools really protect you and your family? What further learning is needed at schools? How can we change the "learning" at schools? In this session, we would like to think together with you, the ordinary citizen, about the relationship between the "learning" at schools about disaster prevention and mitigation, and the zest for living needed in the real world. Students and pupils, we would like to ask you to speak actively from the standpoint of learning about disaster prevention and mitigation.
O-05 Sun. 25 May [J] Geology and culture of the active plate margin

O-06 Sun. 25 May [J] The dynamic evolution of the volcanic island of Nishinoshima: past, present, and future
Convs. Kenta K. Yoshida, Noriko Tada, Hideaki Mori
Nishinoshima is a volcanic island, >800 km south of Honshu. The volcano started effusive lava flow eruption on 2013 to create a new island and about 10 years have passed. The formation of new land by magma on an isolated island in the ocean is a natural laboratory where we can observe the process of life from zero to land. From a geological perspective, we can see how the magmatic activity of Nishinoshima affected its eruption style. In this session, we will show the latest appearance of Nishinoshima and discuss how it will be in the future.

Convs. Naomi Harada, Yosuke Fujii, Saneatsu Saito, Motoaki Horii
The UN Decade of Ocean Science (UNDOS) is a 10-year initiative to advance ocean science globally, aiming to achieve SDG Goal 14, Life Below Water, by 2030. This session seeks to raise awareness of UNDOS, featuring expert presentations on the latest projects in environmental protection, ocean literacy, and next-generation development. In the discussion following the presentations, participants will reflect on achievements to date and share insights on future directions.

Convs. Ichiro Kumagai, Ayako I Suzuki, SHIMOKAWA MICHIKO, Kei Kurita
"Kitchen Earth Science" aims to understand a natural phenomenon in earth and planetary sciences through analogue experiments using goods and tools in our daily life. In this session, we focus on "hands-on experiments that produce diverse goals" and discuss the importance of analogue experiments with uncertainties. We will also discuss the role of the "Kitchen Earth Science Experiment" featured in the NHK TV drama in 2024, "Sora Wataru Kyoshitsu." Convs: Toshihiko Sugai, Hiroya Yamano, Nobuhisa Matta, Naoko Nagumo
Human geoscience (HG) is a new section where researchers from various fields gather to explore the relationship between the global and local environment and human society. We plan to invite researchers who promote HG, focusing on keywords such as the Anthropocene, climate change, disasters, ecosystems, resources and energy, and society. To build a better relationship between the earth and human beings from a sustainable development viewpoint, we would like to share the latest knowledge crossing the fields of the social and natural sciences and provide a new perspective of HG.
