Scope |
Recently, the ground and basement geology related issues such as seismic hazards, sediment-related disasters caused by heavy rains and typhoons, and accidents associated with land development have been increasing. Considering these situations, it is imperative for us to understand the Geo-Risk associated with land development separately for different regions and detailed contents of construction. Further, the issues related to the promotion of renewable energies such as geothermal ones, and carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) and the usage of underground water must be solved based on the knowledge of ground and basement geology. Applied geology is such a discipline dealing with those problems as mentioned above, and can conduct practical activities utilizing many different disciplines such as geology, geomorphology, geophysics, exploration geophysics, geochemistry, ground hydrology, geotechnical engineering, etc. to cope with the issues faced by society. In this session, we will call for presentations from many disciplines related to applied geology, and promote the cooperation between different ones through mutual discussion and deepened knowledge. In addition, we aim to transfer the message emphasizing the important role played in the lives of the people and attractiveness of applied geology, in particular, to younger generations. |
