Scope |
Effective communication is crucial in knowledge creation and sharing. As geoscientists increasingly work across language and cultural boundaries in their research, outreach and education activities, it is important to identify, assess and share innovative approaches to addressing communication challenges. In this session, we survey effective approaches that educators, researchers, other professionals and students have used to co-create and share geoscience knowledge in multilingual initiatives and contexts. To help promote accessibility and develop best practices, we welcome contributions and case studies from our diverse communities and partners to co-build a knowledge base for this strategically important topic in geoscience as a global enterprise. Here is the non-exhaustive list of themes with guiding questions that can help achieve this goal: 1. Education: How can educators create an inclusive and equitable learning environment for learners with different linguistic backgrounds? What are the effective techniques and innovative resources for a multilingual classroom? 2. Outreach: How can geoparks and museums best develop and use translated materials, social media, and programs? 3. Research: How can geoscientists maximize the impact of their research internationally? How effective are multilingual publications, simultaneous interpretation in conferences, and the use of accessible summaries, images and videos on social networks? 4. Conference sessions: How can session conveners best promote opportunities in research, outreach and education activities in multilingual settings? |
