About JpGU 2025
Greetings
JpGU Meeting 2025 Chair
Takeshi Sagiya (Nagoya University/President, The Geodetic Society of Japan)
The Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is a large organization with 50 academic societies and more than 10,000 individual members related to Earth and planetary sciences. The annual meeting held in May is a major event related to Earth and planetary sciences in Japan. It is a valuable opportunity to develop various fields in Earth and planetary sciences through presentations and discussions and to promote interdisciplinary and inter-researcher exchanges. The 2025 Meeting will be held in Makuhari, Chiba, Japan, from May 25 to 30, 2025. We experienced inconvenience during the pandemic of the new coronavirus, and we have reaffirmed the importance of face-to-face interactions at meetings. On the other hand, the hybrid format that began during that time is a mechanism that allows for diverse forms of convention participation. We will continue the hybrid format this year with some revisions. International research exchanges, which had been temporarily stagnant, have become much more active, and the number of overseas participants in the JpGU Meeting has been increasing. We hope you will understand our efforts to develop the JpGU meetings as an international opportunity, such as increasing the number of English-language sessions and the use of English slides.
I hope many of you will participate in the Meeting 2025, present your latest research results, and engage in lively discussions. I hope this will be a fruitful opportunity for the development of Earth and planetary sciences, and that new challenges will be identified, leading to new research.
JpGU Meeting 2025 Program Committee Chair
Kazuyoshi Moriya (Waseda University)
We sincerely appreciate all participants who gave presentations at the JpGU 2024 meeting. We were excited by the sessions and presentations covering various academic fields in geosciences. We received over 4,600 presentations in total. The number of registered participants exceeded 8,000, and approximately 85% attended the event in person at Makuhari Messe. Thanks to your contribution, it was a lively conference with discussions ranging from highly detailed to broad, multi-disciplinary perspectives.
The JpGU 2025 conference will also be held in a hybrid format, combining face-to-face meetings at Makuhari Messe with online participation. You can choose whether to give your talk in person or online from a remote location for oral presentations. While many participants come to attend in person, we expect that online presentations will also expand the range and opportunities for discussion. For poster presentations, uploading the poster online is mandatory, and displaying the poster on-site is optional. Still, we would like you to experience the lively discussions on-site. For the JpGU 2025 conference, we have decided to expand the exhibition hall area by 1.5 times. We hope to see more open and diverse interdisciplinary discussions by effectively using this space.
Your session proposals and presentations are the backbone of the JpGU meeting. The program committee will work hard to develop a program that will contribute to further activating your research and provide new seeds for your scientific fields. We look forward to receiving your proposals and abstracts and seeing you at Makuhari Messe.

*In E sessions, English should be the main language used for the presentation including contents on slides and posters. Japanese may also be used where appropriate, e.g. for asking questions.
*It would be helpful if the slides and posters in J sessions could accompany English so that participants who cannot read Japanese could understand the contents.
