Result of Japan Geoscience Union Section President Election

The section president election has ended to accept candidates at 5pm on Thursday November 16th 2017.

All sections have one candidate each, therefore, based on 7-4 in Detailed regulations of Section president Election (Available in Japanese) the election is not conducted, and the candidates become the section president automatically.

– Space and Planetary Sciences

I will contribute in making free and transparent discussions on the big research plans/projects and international issues for the near future, considering a large variety of science fields and research methods with a sense of unity as space and planetary sciences section of JpGU.

Toshitaka Gamo
(Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, The University of Tokyo)

Toshiyuki Hibiya
Prof. GAMO is an international expert of Chemical Oceanography and has been contributing to the internationalization of Geoscience in Japan as the Secretary of the National Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR). I would like to nominate him as the candidate for the AHS Section President.

Koji Okumura

Our earth and planetary science is taking more important role to assess and mitigate the risks from severe natural hazards. In order to better fulfill the role, I would like to work for the Human Geosciences section.

– Solid Earth Sciences

Eiji Ohtani
(Department of Earth and Planetary Materials Science, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University)

I would like to strengthen our section by creating the internal structures of our section such as focus groups, improving section website, and also strengthen the relation with section representatives. I would like to encourage international activities including joint meeting and joint sessions.


Kazuyoshi Endo

[Brief candidate statement]

Biogeoscience has pivotal roles in integrating geo and bio sciences, but the conditions surrounding it are far from satisfactory in terms of both research and education. I will do my best to overcome this situation, promoting international collaborations to establish it as a mature field of science.
