(1)Japan
Earth Science Olympiad Committee

The 4th IESO or
International Earth Science Olympiad was held from September
19 to 28, 2010 around Jakarta, Indonesia. 63 high school
students from 17 countries around the world participated in
it and did their best in written and practical tests on 3
categories. They are Geology and Solid earth, Meteorology
and Marine sciences, and Earth and Planetary Sciences. 
Kazuhiro Noda, the 3rd grader of Hiroshima Gakuin High
School won the Gold Medal and Taichi Ohnishi, the 2nd grader
of Hakuryo High School, Takashi Kawashima, the 3rd grader of
Shizuoka Prefectural Iwata Minami High School and Kenta
Takeuchi, the 3rd grader of Seiko Gakuin High School won
Silver Medals. This is the 1st time for Team Japan to win
the Gold Medal.  Kazuhiro Noda also won the best award on
Earth and Planetary Science Section. They paid the courtesy
call on Mr. Yoshiaki Takagi, the Minister of Education,
Sports, Science and Technology right after they arrived at
Narita on September 29. After receiving commendations, 4
students made reports to the minister Mr. Takagi, Vice
minister Mr. Suzuki and Political Advisor Ms. Hayashi. 
Mentors of Team Japan made reports after the discussion and
could tell them how attractive to participate in IESO was.

Entry the 1st selection for the 5th IESO or the 3rd
Japan Japan Earth Science Olympiad is from September 1 to

(2) Japan International Geography Olympiad Committee
High
school students who participated in International Geography
Olympiad in Taiwan this August paid the courtesy call on Mr.
Yoshiaki Takagi, the Minister of Education, Sports, Science
and Technology on September 28.  Yudai Tanaka who won the
Bronze Medal and Atsushi Taguchi were given commemoratives
and talked with Minister, Vice minister and Political
Advisor.  This is the 1st time for to pay courtesy call on
the Minister. Entry for the Asia Pacific Regional Geography
Olympiad or Japan International Geography Olympiad started
on October 1. Please be active to challenge the competition.

(3) Committee for International Affairs of JpGU


European Geosciences Union or EGU are to be held from April
3 to 8, 2011 in Vienne, Austria.


Session proposals were closed but deadline for abstract
submission is January 10, 2011.


In JpUG Meeting 2010, EGU and JpGU made 4 joint sessions and
was a great success.


Please be active to contribute to our partnership and make
abstract submissions for EGU 2011.
