(2) Meeting Applications
◎Student Travel Support
JpGU offers financial support for students in order to participate in
the 2017 meeting.
Eligible applicants:
Must be a student (high school to graduate school) at the time of
application.
Must be the first author of a presentation (posters included).
Will be required to provide your information to JpGU.
Selection criteria:
(1) Students in minority groups in nationality and gender will be
given priorities;
(2) Students must secure the whole travel cost and registration fee
with the aid of this support;
(3) Submitted abstract need to be recognized as adequate by the
relevant JpGU Section ;
(4) Applicants will provide answers to short questions.

We will start these applications after the program schedule is finalized,

(3) About JpGU Membership
The 2017 JpGU membership year starts on January 6th, 2017.
Please note that any membership payments received before or on January 5th,
2017 will be applied towards 2016 membership year and annual due for the
2017
year will also be charged.

#3. The 2nd Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geoscience
*Deadline: Dec.15
Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is now accepting recommendations for
candidates for the 2nd Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geoscience.
JpGU has created the “Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geoscience” to
honor internationally recognized mid-level researchers under the age
of 45 in 2014.

#4. The 2017 JpGU Fellowship Program *Deadline: Dec.31
Fellowship Program confers fellowship honors upon individuals who
have made contributions to the field of geoscience research in Japan
by making significant discoveries breakthroughs or paradigm shift,
or contributing to the development of Japanese geoscience and the
dissemination of geoscientific knowledge.
Please see the details shown below and send the documents necessary
for the nomination by the deadline.

#5. From Committees
(1) Japan Earth Science Olympiad Committee
The preliminary round of the Japan Earth Science Olympiad, and
International Earth Science Olympiad in France in 2017, will be held
on December 18th.
The number of the applicants is 1924, with 1369 male students and
555 female students and this is 16% less than that of last year.
The elimination sites, on the other hand, is spreading all over Japan
recording 74 sites except for Wakayama and Tottori prefecture.

(1) PEPS Has Just Started Accepting Data Papers
The aim of PEPS data papers is to preserve detailed raw research data
and metadata and make these freely available to the research community
for further analysis.
