         of Geoscience

As we mentioned on the Extraordinary Edition of our mail news,
“Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geoscience” was made.
This prize is given to mid-level researchers under the age of 45.
We’re now accepting the recommendations from him/herself or others.

Prof. Masatoshi Yoshino, professor emeritus of Tsukuba University,
who was  recommended by Japan Geoscience Union received the 6th
Tokyu Foundation for Better Environment Social Contribution in Academia Award

└■ 6.Information from PEPS

Special International Sessions contributing to Progress in Earth and
Planetary Science (PEPS) are wanted for JpGU Meeting 2015

Now that the session proposal for JpGU Meeting 2015 has started, we, Journal
Planning Committee is to accept application for Special International Session
about Multidisciplinary research field as a part of global communication enhancement.
Financial support for accommodation and transportation are to be provided to the
participants from abroad who make presentations at this special session.
Several participants in a session including these invited presenters from abroad,
conveners, and other Japanese presenters are required to submit their manuscripts
to our international journal PEPS on the basis of their presentations.
They are expected to submit their manuscripts within 6 months after the JpGU Meeting 2015.
This preferential treatment will not only implement fruitful sessions in the JpGU Meeting
but also improve the high level of PEPS quality.

★Requirements for proposing Special International Sessions
・The session must be held at JpGU Meeting 2015.
・Several manuscripts based on the session presentations have to be submitted to PEPS
  within 6 months after the session.
  (The proponents shall obtain the relevant authors’ agreement in advance regarding this requirement.)
・Financial support to utmost two participants from abroad are available per session.

* Several proposals are to be adopted as Special International Sessions.

・Budget necessary for participating in JpGU Meeting 2015
・List of presenters including their titles, affiliations and e-mail addresses

Abstract submission for XIX INQUA 2015 started

This time, it is held at Nagoya, Japan from July 27th to August 2nd, 2015.
More than 1,000 participants are expected.

There’re 116 theme sessions.
Deadline is December 20th, 2014.
Please be active to submit your abstracts.

 (2) Japan Earth Planetary Science Olympiad Committee

At International Earth Planetary Science Olympiad held in Spain from
September 22nd to 28th, Team Japan won three gold and one bronze medals.
82 high school students from 21 countries and territories participated
in this competition.  Team Japan got the second largest number of medals
after Taiwan with three gold and one silver medals.
Chikyu-ni-Waku Waku research project and character design contests for
elementary and junior high school students are wanted by October 31st.  
Application for the preliminary selection of the 7th Japan Earth Science
Olympiad is also being accepted by November 15th.
