#1. Foreword by Takashi Oguchi, President of JpGU
It is a great honor to serve as President of the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU). During the past two years, I have served as Vice President of JpGU, gaining valuable experience in the Union’s management and activities. Building on this experience, I will work with our members and the Secretariat to further strengthen JpGU.
The success of the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026 marked a major step forward in JpGU’s internationalization. We should build on this achievement by further promoting international collaboration while strengthening our engagement with society and our support for early-career researchers. Through my involvement in international scientific organizations and journals, I have developed a broad global network, which I hope to use to advance these goals.
In the next two years, JpGU will also renew its membership and annual meeting management systems and assume an important leadership role in the Japan Inter-Society Liaison Association Committee for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women in Science and Engineering. I am committed to ensuring the successful implementation of these initiatives in close cooperation with our members and colleagues.
I sincerely appreciate your continued support and look forward to working together to advance JpGU further.

#2. Farewell Address by Simon Wallis, Former President of JpGU
On June 15, I officially completed my term as JpGU President. My final duties were particularly pleasurable, as I was able to confirm Takashi Oguchi as the incoming JpGU President and Michio Kawamiya as the new President-Elect. Over the next two years, I look forward to supporting them and the new JpGU Leadership in my new role as Immediate Past President.
Looking back, leading JpGU was more challenging than I had anticipated, but also more rewarding. The reward comes from a sense of achievement, but also from a strong feeling of collegiality and community. While JpGU may not yet share the deep historical roots of some of our member societies, it possesses a vibrant community of over 13,000 members who generously offer their time and energy to manage the organization. In particular, I want to express my gratitude to our office staff, whose professionalism, hard work, and unwavering support have been invaluable to me throughout my term. I would also like to thank Koji Wada, who leads our meeting committee so effectively.
One of my main preoccupations as President was the planning and execution of the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026. Three years in the making, the event faced significant geopolitical headwinds. Despite these challenges, the meeting drew a record-breaking attendance of more than 10,000 participants—solidifying JpGU’s position as one of the world’s three major hubs for the geoscience community. Throughout the complex preparation process, I benefited immensely from the wise counsel and support of Fumio Inagaki and Bill McDonough. I also wish to extend my sincere thanks to our Program Chairs, Madhusoodhan Satish-Kumar (“Satish”) and Carol Finn, for their leadership and dedication.
I am confident that JpGU will continue to expand its impact both inside Japan and beyond under its new leadership. It has been a great privilege and honor to serve as your President. Thank you to everyone who supported me along this journey.

(3) Contact tool among conveners and presenters
The mailing list that was provided as a tool for communication among conveners and presenters at the 2026 meeting will be closed on 31 August.
(4) Meeting Participation Site (Confit)
The Confit system used by JpGU meeting was discontinued at the 2026 meeting, and the servers was shut down.
Therefore,
access to presentation materials (abstracts, e-posters, and supplementary materials) published in Confit, as well as all features (such as comments, private messages, and editing or adding supplementary materials), has been unavailable. Information currently published for the 2026 meeting was moved to an archive site.

(5) Lost and Found at the Local Venue
Lost and found items that were collected at the headquarters during the meeting will be kept for a certain period of time after the meeting at the local venue, Makuhari Messe.

#8. Information from PEPS
(1) Impact Factor and CiteScore 2025
The 2025 edition Impact Factor (IF) and Scopus/CiteScore have now been released.
PEPS’s 5-year IF rose to 4.2 and its 2-year IF to 3.6 compared to last year. While the CiteScore decreased to 4.8, the current CiteScore preview as of June has significantly increased compared to the same period last year.
