#7. Early Career and Student Community Support Survey (by 31 DEC)

One of the Task teams of the Global Geoscience Societies, of which
JpGU is a voluntary member, is the “Support Early Career and Student
Communities (ECS)” Task Team and has garnered support from 13
geoscience societies in formulation of this survey (enter from URL
below). It will take only 10 minutes to complete. This survey will
remain open through December 2023. The purpose is to help societies
understand the career aspirations or challenges for students and early
career professionals interested in Earth and Space Science. Once the
responses have been collected, they will be shared amongst the global
geosciences societies to help them develop programs, resources, and
tools to ensure ECS can be prepared or excel in their profession.
Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

(2) Featured Articles
We will introduce the featured articles selected by the editor-in-
chief from the papers published in the past.

@ Samuel A. Shidler and Fabiano S. Rodrigues: An electrodynamics
model for Data Interpretation and Numerical Analysis of ionospheric
Missions and Observations (DINAMO).
https://doi.org/10.1186/s40645-021-00462-3
This paper introduces a new numerical model DINAMO developed to
assist with Data Interpretation and Numerical Analysis of ionospheric
Missions and Observations, with the illustrative results of its
applications. From a two-dimensional dynamo equation and user-specified
inputs for the state of the ionosphere and thermosphere (I–T) system,
DINAMO derives the ionospheric electrostatic potential at low- and
mid-latitudes which specifies the structure of electric fields and
associated F-region E × B plasma drifts. Most of the model was
written in Python to facilitate the setup of numerical experiments.
When I–T climatological models are used as drivers, DINAMO reproduces
many of the observed features of the plasma drifts including the
diurnal, seasonal, altitudinal, and solar cycle variability. DINAMO
is also able to quantify the impact of meridional currents on the
morphology of F-region zonal plasma drifts.

@ Shoma Oya, Katsuyoshi Michibayashi et al.: Peridotites with back-arc
basin affinity exposed at the southwestern tip of the Mariana forearc.
https://doi.org/10.1186/s40645-022-00476-5
This paper reports the microstructure, crystallographic orientations
fabric, major and minor chemical compositions of the constituent
minerals of the peridotite samples recovered from the southern
Mariana forearc region. These peridotites are similar to those of the
lithosphere of the back-arc basin, but different from those of the
mantle wedge. Based on these observations, this paper discussed the
origin of these peridotites.
