#2. Information on JpGU Meeting 2021 [IMPORTANT]

(1) Meeting Outline

[JpGU Meeting 2021]
Date: May 30 (Sun) – June 6 (Sun), 2021
Meeting Format: Online

2021 Meeting portal site:
https://confit.atlas.jp/guide/event/jpgu2021/top
* Meeting registration is required to attend JpGU 2021.
* The login function will become available on May 21.
On and after May 21, those who have not registered will not be able
to access the meeting contents.

(2) Registration for Participation

Please register for the meeting in order to participate in and join the
Meeting by May 19.
Registration is open until June 5. However please be noted that
those who register on and after May 20 will only be able to log in at 3PM
JST on the next day of your registration (excluding weekends and
holidays). Your meeting registration does not immediately enable
you to connect to the portal site for log in; please note this time gap.

To register, login to members’ site,

Go to Meeting Registration from the JpGU Meeting menu on the left side.

* Your abstract fee payment alone doesn’t enable you to attend the meeting.
Meeting registration is a separate and different procedure.

* Public attendees can join Public sessions free of charge.
The registration for public attendees, however is required and opens on May 12.

* Undergraduate students are requested to send us the copy of their
student IDs using the designated form by May 19 for us to accept your registrations free of charge.

(3) Guide for Presenters [Please check]

[Oral Speakers]
– All oral presenters are required to give their talks live using the
“Zoom meeting.” No pre-recordings or presentation material is required
in advance (except for substitute presentations).

– In addition to the talk by Zoom, oral presenters can upload an
on-demand video or other materials. Additional materials can be
uploaded from May 21.
* Uploading deadline of on-demand video has passed on May 7.
* Additional materials are to be uploaded by the original presenters
from May 21. Uploaded materials can be replaced or withdrawn at
anytime. There is no deadline for uploading, but we ask for your
cooperation to complete your uploading before the meeting to enable as
many attendees as possible to enjoy the content.

– We will conduct a Webinar for presenters, conveners and chairpersons
on May 26. Please join us.

[Poster Presenters]
– Poster presenters are required to upload their presentation materials
in advance.

– The following three file formats can be uploaded as your presentation
material. You can upload one file or combination of these to form
your poster presentation material.
(a) e-poster: protection set against illegal downloads, etc.
(b) on-demand video: protection set against illegal downloads, etc
* Uploading deadline has passed on May 7.
(c) Additional materials: no protection can be set.
* Additional materials are to be uploaded by the original presenters
from May 21. Uploaded materials can be replaced or withdrawn at
anytime. There is no deadline for uploading, but we ask for your
cooperation in uploading before the meeting to enable as
many attendees as possible to enjoy the content.

Please note that if you upload only additional materials, we may not
be able to issue a certificate of presentation.

during the poster core time (June 3 – 6, PM3).
Please make use of it for your presentation and discussion.
Zoom allocation plan will be announced later.

* Some contents are already viewable but links for Zoom, e-posters,
on-demand videos etc. will become available on May 27.
Log in will be required on and after May 21.

* Please make sure that your Zoom application is updated to the
latest version. You may not be able to use the Breakout room function
if it’s not updated. You can install the latest version at the Zoom
Download Center (https://zoom.us/download).

* Your JpGU is the log in ID.
The password will not be sent to you in advance due to security
reasons and problems caused by undelivered e-mails.
When you log in for the first time, please set your password by
clicking “Set Password for First Time Login”.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

* Only those who registered for the meeting can log in to the meeting
portal site.

(5) Schedule function and release of abstract PDF

“My schedule” function will become available on May 21.

The release of abstract PDF is May 21.
* Log in is required to view the PDF.
* There will be no mobile app for this year.

(6) Announcements from Sessions

The interviewer will sharply cut into the researchers who are active
in the research front line, and will approach not only their research
but also their stories and characters behind.
This time, we will feature Prof. Yoshitsugu Kobayashi at Hokkaido
University, who is also popular among elementary school students as
a doctor dinosaur, and Dr. Huixin Liu (in English) of Kyushu University,
a female researcher from overseas.

– Super Introductory JpGU Super Lesson (new project)
Date: June 2nd (Wednesday)
(Details such as time and contents will be posted on the website
around May 17th)
Participation: All attendees are welcome.
Content:
This is an event to support not only young students but also mid-career
and seniors who want to study data and analysis methods that they
have never touched before.
This time, we plan to prepare into two classes: one for searching and
analyzing satellite image data that can be used for free, and the
other for exercises using Python.

#5. Call for 2021 Volunteer OSPA Judges

Your contribution matters!
Each year we have a high number of entries for Outstanding Student
Presentation Award (OSPA). This year with no exception, we received
more than 400 entries to the award.

Our goal is to have at least 3 judges per entry, and this makes the
cooperation from the volunteer judges an integral role.

Award Ceremony for Japan Geoscience Union Scientific Award “Miyake
Prize,” and Award Ceremony for The 4th Nishida Prize for Promotion
of Geo- and Planetary Science
Introduction of The Asahiko Taira International Scientific Ocean
Drilling Research Prize recipient

The ceremony will be followed by presentations of the JpGU 30th
Anniversary Distinguished Service Certificates

We will have live comments from the award winners, and we look forward
to your participation.

(1) SPEPS thematic collection [Projection and impact assessment of
global change] completed

The SPEPS collection [Projection and impact assessment of global
change] started accepting submissions in the fall of 2019, has published 26 excellent
articles and just completed it by publishing a Preface that summarizes
these published articles.
We appreciate all of the time and effort that the authors, co-authors
and reviewers spent working on this collection.
