#2. Announcing the launch of our new website

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website on April 1st,
The new website is designed to be responsive to mobile devices also.
We hope you enjoy our new website and it will be a useful source of
information on Geoscience for you.

#3. JpGU Meeting 2019 Information [Important]

(1) Final Program Information
The final program was published on March 14.
Please make sure to check the latest program before you make a
presentation/ attend the meeting.

We hope all attendees enjoy the JpGU2019.

(2) A Month Left for the Early Registration Deadline

Register early and save your money!
All attendees are required to make an online Meeting registration in
order to attend JpGU2019. If you wish to receive a discounted rate,
please complete your registration before the early registration

Early Meeting Registration Deadline: May 8, at 11:59pm JST

*Abstract submission and abstract submission fee does not register
you for the meeting.

Meeting registration must be made from the designated online system.
There will be no on-site registration counter at the site.
Please make sure to complete the registration before attending and to
bring your individual identification barcode issued after the
registration to enter the venue.

-Public attendees who will attend public sessions on open-to-public day,
can attend free of charge.
-Undergraduate students and younger can attend the full meeting free
of charge. (online registration is required. please also present your
student ID at the gate)
-Fee for Senior members has changed.

(3) Call for Highlight Presentations

JpGU issues a press release regarding the meeting and highlight
The highlight presentation list and details are distributed to press
and JpGU 2019 attendees.

If you are interested in submitting an application to be introduced
as a highlight paper, please see the webpage below and apply.

Application Deadline: April 19 at 5:00pm JST

(4) What to Do to Cancel Your Presentation

If you become unable to present at the meeting, use the Communication
portal to inform your session convener(s) of your cancellation. This
portal can also be used to inform change of presenter, the updates on your
abstract and any other communication to the convener.

Please note that this system is for communication and announcement
purpose only. We cannot make any change to the online program and
printed materials as the final progam is already fixed.

The Communication portal is planned to be open in mid- April and we
will announce the opening via JpGU Meeting NEWS & INFO.

(5) Child Care Service

JpGU will provide child care services during the meeting.
Please see the following URL for further details.

Registration is required for this service.

(6) Rental Rooms for Business Meeting

JpGU offers rooms for business meetings during the meeting.
We will provide these room on a first-come-first-serve basis.

(7) Supporting Documents for VISA Application: Deadline Approaching [April 25]

We are about to close the application for VISA supporting documents
in two weeks on April 25.
Please be noted that this deadline must be strictly kept and we can
not accept applications after this date in any reason.
Please make sure to finish a required procedure by the deadline if
you need the documents.

(8) Poster Print Service

JpGU has partnered with Kinko’s to provide a poster print service.
The application should be submitted from Kinko’s online system.
The ordering site will open in the end of April.

(9) Student Part-time Job Info

We will start calling for part-time student workers during the
meeting in mid-April.

We have variety of jobs that you may enjoy.
Seats will be taken on first-come-first-serve basis.
Details are coming soon.

(10) Housing
Nippon Travel Agency has opened the website for local accommodations
for JpGU Meeting attendees.

(4) “Oshaberi” bar (Pop-Up talks)
Pop-up talks is an exciting free talk presentation by students and
early career scientists under 35 years old.
Each talk will last 5 minutes and the presentation topic can be anything
related to science (e.g. Research, lifestyle, career etc.)
Presenters will also be given an original t-shirt!

held at JpGU.

#6. Call for 2019 Volunteer OSPA Judges

Your contribution matters!
Each year we have a high number of entries for Outstanding Student
Presentation Award (OSPA). This year with no exception, we received
615 entries to the award.

Our goal is to have at least 3 judges per entry, and this makes the
cooperation from the volunteer judges an integral role.

(2) Japan Earth Science Olympiad Committee

The 11th Japan Earth Science Olympiad was held on March 10- 12 at
Tsukuba, Ibaraki.
Gold, silver and bronze prize were awarded to top 10 participants of
each prize.
Moreover, the Ibaraki’s Governor Prize to the first prize winner,
Tsukuba’s Mayor Prize to the second, Tsukuba Expo ’85 Memorial
Foundation’s President Prize to the top junior high school contestant,
Geological Survey of Japan Special Prize to the top contestant of
appraisal and the Japan Geoscience Union Prize to the top female
contestant were additionally awarded.
The Geoscience Union Prize was celebrated by Hodaka Kawahata,
president of JpGU.

On March 12 and 14, the gold prize awardees competed to earn a
place for the 13th International Science Olympiad and 4 of them won
the seat . The competition will take place in Korea on August 26- Nov
3 .

(3) Global Strategy Committee

JpGU is making our exhibit at the EGU General Assembly 2019 in Vienna.

(1) Submission deadline for the Chiba – Section SPEPS extended to 2019/9/30
The submission deadlines for the SPEPS collections “Stratigraphy
and paleoclimatic/paleoenviromental evolution across the Early–Middle
Pleistocene transition in the Chiba composite section, Japan, and other
reference sections in East Asia” have been extended until 2019/9/30.
