On the Passing of Professor Atsuhiro Nishida

We are deeply saddened to learn of Professor Atsuhiro Nishida’s passing and would like to express our heartfelt condolences.

Over many years, Professor Nishida made outstanding contributions to the advancement of Earth and planetary sciences through both his groundbreaking research and his dedication to fostering the next generation of scientists. In particular, the JpGU “Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geo- and Planetary Science,” established through his generous donation, has played a vital role in advancing the field and supporting early-career researchers.

We honor Professor Nishida’s legacy with sincere appreciation and offer our thoughts and prayers for his peaceful rest.
