Commendation
For outstanding contribution to the international geoscience community, in particular, the development of and strengthening of the EGU-JpGU partnership
Major achievementsAs Executive Director of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), Phillippe Courtial has played a pivotal role in ensuring the continued success of the annual meetings. He has actively fostered collaboration with other geoscience societies, including JpGU, and has built a strong foundation for scientists to communicate and collaborate beyond national borders and organizational frameworks. He coordinated joint EGU–JpGU sessions at every JpGU meeting and contributed significantly to the establishment of debate-style sessions. His outstanding contributions to the planning and operation of the 2015 JpGU–EGU–AGU–AOGS joint international symposium are particularly noteworthy. In the current global situation of rising international tensions and increasing challenges to science, his decade-long dedication to advancing and strengthening international collaboration is especially commendable and more vital than ever.
