Major achievements
Dr. Hirotsugu Nishi has served as a Board Member of the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU), first as a general incorporated association and later as a public interest incorporated association, since 2010. In particular, he made significant contributions to laying the foundations for the Union’s development during the early stage of its transition to a Public Interest Incorporated Association.As Chair of the Finance Committee, he implemented various improvements in accounting procedures and helped establish a sound financial foundation for the Union.He also served as a member of the General Affairs Committee from FY2015 to FY2025. In this role, he contributed to establishing several important regulations related to the core operations of the JpGU Secretariat, including the gratuity regulations, the employment regulations for full-time secretariat staff, the employment regulations for part-time secretariat staff, and the wage regulations.In addition, at the request of the Board of Directors, he became the Director in charge of the Education Review Committee around 2018. By linking the activities of the Science Council of Japan with those of JpGU, he played a leading role in compiling the proposal entitled “The Importance of Earth Education in Primary, Secondary, and Lifelong Education: As Fundamental Literacy for Living on a Changing Earth.” This proposal was submitted to the Science Council of Japan in June 2020.
