For outstanding contributions to JpGU, including long-standing activities as a core member of the executive committee since the Joint Meeting Organization period, the development of secretariat office, and the establishment of the commendation system
Major achievements
Dr. Masato Nakamura served as Treasurer from the establishment of the Japan Geoscience Union Meeting of related societies in Earth and planetary sciences in 2000 and contributed to putting the operation of the meeting on track. He also contributed to the development of the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) after its establishment in 2005 as one of the central members of the JpGU executive leadership for many years. In particular, since 2012 he has made efforts as Vice President toward the establishment of the JpGU Fellow program, which recognizes outstanding researchers in the field of Earth and planetary sciences, and also contributed to the establishment of the Nishida Prize for Promotion of Earth and Planetary Science, which honors excellent mid-career researchers based on a donation from JpGUmember Atsuhiro Nishida. Dr. Nakamura also supported the activities of the JpGU Secretariat as Chair of the General Affairs Committee and made efforts toward the promotion of gender equality. In addition, he played a central role in the preparation of the Science Council of Japan report “Science and Dream Roadmap in the Fields of Science and Engineering” (2011), for which JpGU served as the coordinating body, and made significant contributions to the development of JpGU.
