For significant contribution to the promoting the international profile of JpGU. In particular his contributions since its foundation to promoting the society journal, Progress in Earth and Planetary Science, which were important in establishing its current high international reputation; and his contributions to raising the profile of the annual JpGU meeting through proposing and convening numerous international sessions over many years.

1）He helped negotiate the launch of Progress in Earth and Planetary Science (PEPS journal) and obtain the impact factor.
2）He contributed to reviewing papers and planning special issues as a member of the editorial board of the PEPS.
3）He published excellent review papers and original papers in the PEPS.
4）He organized international sessions in the interdisciplinary field of solid earth science at the JpGU Annual Meeting for many years and strengthened cooperation with the AGU and other organizations.
5）He introduced many foreign researchers to the Japanese research community, for example, invited speakers at the above international sessions.
