2024 Japan Geoscience Union President’s Award

The Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is now accepting nominations of candidates for the recipient of 2024 JpGU President’s Award.
President Award nominees shall be put forward by a recommender. They shall then be recommended from among the nominations reviewed by the JpGU President Award Evaluation Committee, acting as an advisory body to the JpGU president. Successful nominees shall be those from among the recommended nominations who are then approved by the JpGU Board of Directors.

1. JpGU President Award Nominees

Individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the activities of JpGU.

2. Qualifications that should be met by JpGU President Awards

Candidates must be current or former regular members of JpGU, and must be recommended by others.

3. Recommenders

Only a regular member can be a nominator.

4. Nomination Format

The person who is making a nomination shall do so by sending a written nomination to the JpGU President in which the following information (1)-(9) is contained by email.
the candidate’s interest in receiving the President Award will need to be confirmed in advance.

(1) The name and contact details of the nominee and the nominator

(2) The nominee’s history (Their special field, Their research history, Their awards history, Their contributions with regard to universities, research institutions and learned societies, etc.)
(3) A letter setting out the reasons for nomination (expressed in two A4 pages or less, in either Japanese or English)
(4) Major achievements (either in English (less than 800 characters) or in Japanese (less than 400 characters))
(5) Short citation
120 ~ 250 characters.
Please use the following format; “for outstanding contributions to (***).”
(6) A letter of support of about one A4 page, in either Japanese or English. The letter may include cosigners.)
(7) The confirmation of the ethical compliance by the recommended person

5. Nomination

Nomination must be sent within the nomination period for the applicable year in question, by email addressed to the Office for the JpGU President Award (president award_office[at]jpgu.org).

  • Please put required items into a pdf file and a word file (25 MByte or below.)
  • To avoid mistakes, please submit all documents in one batch.
  • Subject of e-mail should be “JpGU会長賞推薦書(候補者氏名)” or “Nomination of JpGU President Award ( nominee’s name )” .
  • You should be receiving an email confirmation of your inquiry within 1 week.
  • If you do not receive a confirmation by e-mail within 1week, please contact us. Without the email confirmation, your nomination will be invalid.

6. JpGU President Award Presentation Ceremonies

Presentation ceremonies for JpGU President Award shall be held at the JpGU Union Meeting.

7. JpGU President Award Evaluation Committee

  • Members of the JpGU President Award Evaluation Committee shall be appointed by the President after deliberations by the Board of Directors.

8. Acceptance Period for Nominations

From Noon on November 25 Saturday to Noon on December 5 Tuesday, 2023 (JST)

The number of awards has increased since FY2024. We would like to set a submission period to prevent errors in document submission and confirmation. Thank you for your understanding.
