#1. Preface by Hodaka Kawahata, President of JpGU
(Available in Japanese)

——————————————————————–
#2. Donation request for this year by Finance Committee

Since last year, we have asked everyone to donate with the goal of
“500 donations of 3000 yen in 5 fiscal years”. This is a requirement
(Certification as an Organization of Tax Credits for Contributions)
that makes it possible to choose a way of making a donation that would
be more tax-beneficial for the Earth and Planetary Science Coalition
to make a donation, and will encourage the Earth and Planetary Science
Coalition to make more donations. The number of donations fell short
of 500 at the end of the previous fiscal year. If we receive about 100
more donations this fiscal year, we will achieve our goal. Those who
donated last year will be counted again this year, so please cooperate
again. As a member of the Finance Committee, we have received many
donations to strengthen our financial base and to improve our services
without raising membership fees or participation fees.
The donation you wish to make is a general donation as stated in
Article 2 of the Rules for the Handling of Donations
https://www.jpgu.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/kihukisoku.pdf
This is defined as “A donation to be received by the general public,
including members of this corporation, through a regular fundraising
activity” and can be recruited on a regular basis. According to
Article 3, “General contributions shall be raised for the purpose of
using 50% or more of the total amount of contributions for the
business for public interest purposes provided for in Article 5 of the
Articles of Incorporation.” In reality, the entire amount is used for
the public utilities of the Japan Geoscience Union. (The Japan
Geoscience Union has a 95: 5 ratio of utility expenses to general
administrative expenses. The total budget for this fiscal year is
about 170 million yen.) Article 6 stipulates that (Note: Fund-raising
prospectuses are limited to specific donations.) “Upon receipt of a
general donation or a specified donation, a thank-you note, receipt,
and a prospectus for raising funds under Article 4, Paragraph 1 shall
be sent to the donator without delay. The receipt set forth in the
preceding paragraph shall state that the donation is a donation
related to the business for public interest purposes of this
corporation, the amount of the donation, and the date of receipt
thereof.” Article 9 stipulates information disclosure and Article 10
stipulates personal information protection.
As I have outlined above, we use our donations with great care, and
we pay close attention to how we handle them. I would like to add that
donations from your family will be added to the total for the number
of family members (You don’t have to be a member of JpGU to donate.).
For more information on how to make a donation, please visit the
following URL.

In order to avoid raising the membership and participation fees, we
ask for your cooperation once again.
