How to Pay JpGU FeesHow to make payment
Payment of the JpGU annual fee, JpGU Meeting registration fee and JpGU Meeting abstract submission fee is done using the JpGU Members Site. Please note that new members are required to pay their first year’s annual fee as part of the registration process. Japan residents can choose to make a personal payment using a credit card, or to have their institution pay (if appropriate) by either domestic bank transfer or credit card.
Overseas residents can only pay by credit card. Those who wish to pay using an institutional credit card have to be authorized to enter the details of that card when making their payment.
In the case of domestic bank transfers we issue an electronic invoice, and for credit card payments we issue an electronic receipt. These can be downloaded after logging in to the JpGU Members Site. As a general rule the JpGU Office does not send out invoices or receipts by post.
How to issue invoices and receipts using the JpGU Members Site
– Login to the JpGU Members Site using your membership ID and password
– Click on “Settlement” in the menu on left hand side of the screen.
– In the sub menu that appears click on “Invoice” or “Receipt” as appropriate.
– If there is more than one paid item (e.g. both annual membership fee and JpGU Meeting registration fee have been paid) choose the relevant item and if the information (date, recipient name etc.) is correct click on “confirmation”. In the unlikely event that there is a problem please email the JpGU office for help.
– A pdf of the invoice or receipt will be displayed. This may be downloaded or printed as required.
Period covered by the JpGU annual fee
The JpGU fiscal year starts on April 1st and ends on March 31st of the following year (Tokyo time), and the annual membership fee covers this period. Please note that those who become members on dates other than April 1st will be charged a full years’ fee for their initial partial year of membership.
We accept payment of the annual fee for the next April – March period from the beginning of the immediately preceding January.
Any member who is more than 2 years in arrears with the payment of their annual fee will forfeit their membership. They will receive a final email notification before this happens.
Please note that members aged 70 or over are still required to pay the JpGU annual membership fee every year.
Automatic Renewal of JpGU Member and Associate Member Membership
For JpGU Members, unless the member leaves JpGU, membership is automatically extended after March 31st for another year, at which point the annual fee becomes due again.
JpGU does not automatically charge the annual fee to members’ credit cards: members who pay by credit card are requested to login to the JpGU Members Site once a year to make their payment.
For Associate Members, membership is automatically extended for another year as long as the member is still eligible for Associate Membership. Associate Members who graduate from university or leave full time education are no longer eligible for Associate Membership, and those who wish to continue as members of the JpGU should reapply as JpGU Members.
JpGU Annual Fee Graduate Student Discount
Graduate students and other researchers of equivalent status are eligible for a discounted annual membership fee of 1,000JPY.
How to apply: during the online application procedure please select “Graduate Student” as part of your membership profile. You will be asked to provide either your supervisor’s JpGU ID, or, if not applicable, their name, organization and Email.
Those who incorrectly apply for the graduate student discount may be required to make up the balance of the annual registration fee.
Please note that we are unfortunately unable to refund the annual membership fee for any reason whatsoever.
Updating Membership InformationIf any of the membership information registered with JpGU needs to be amended (e.g. membership classification, affiliated institution, telephone number or email address), please login to the JpGU Members Site and make the necessary changes.
How to Create a JpGU ID
On this system, you can do..
– Membership subscription (member, student member)

– Meeting registration, abstract submission
– Withdrawal from JpGU
How to withdraw from Membership of JpGUAfter loging-in to the JpGU Members Site, please click on ‘ID Information’ and then ‘Withdrawal’ and follow the instructions given there.
Please note that Regular Membership is automatically renewed for another year unless the member leaves JpGU by the end of March.
Any unpaid annual fees must be paid before a member leaves JpGU: the system will not accept withdrawals when there is any outstanding balance. Members who leave at or before the end of their currently paid fiscal year will of course not be charged fees for the following year.
