About JpGU 2024

Greetings

JpGU Meeting 2024 Chair

Hirokazu TATANO (Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University / Japan Society for Natural Disaster Science)
The JpGU Meeting 2024 will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture for six days from May 26 to 31, 2024. The coming meeting will be held in a hybrid format, as was the case in previous two meetings. While retaining the advantages of the hybrid format, including the ability to allow participation from remote locations, we will be able to hold more full-fledged face-to-face discussion. I hope that many of the participants will come to the venue to meet face to face and engage in a frank exchange of ideas and opinions. The JpGU is an organization of about 10,000 individual members and about 50 domestic society members related to Earth and planetary sciences.
Let's create an enjoyable and meaningful six days together with you, beginning with session proposals we requested you to make. We look forward to working with you.

JpGU Meeting 2024 Program Committee Chair

Hitoshi SAITO (Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Nagoya University)
JpGU Meeting 2024 will be held in a hybrid format, with both in-person meetings at Makuhari Messe in Chiba and online meetings. We welcome proposals for sessions from a wide range of research fields.
A total of 228 sessions were held at JpGU Meeting 2023. The number of on-site participants, as well as those from overseas, increased significantly, and we had lively oral and poster presentations. There were also great benefits to online participation, and online communication has become the norm. The JpGU Meeting 2024 will also be held over a one-week period, where we will utilize the advantages of both in-person and online formats. Oral presentations will be in a hybrid format, and poster presentations will include on-site presentations, online e-posters, and flash talks. As with the JpGU Meeting 2023, we will provide a venue for in-person discussions with on-site participants, and we will provide opportunities for online presentations. We will also organize the program in a way that deepens the interactions between in-person and online participants. To ensure that JpGU Meeting 2024 is a forum for fruitful discussion, we would greatly appreciate it if participants would propose sessions from a wide range of research fields, and if conveners could organize sessions for lively discussions both on-site and online.
We, the JpGU 2024 Program Committee members, are looking forward to seeing you at JpGU Meeting 2024. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Presentation Format & Language

Presentation Formats

Two formats are available for presentations: oral and poster.

JpGU accepts either orals-and-posters or posters-only session.
Some sessions will be posters-only sessions.

Presentation formats are assigned by session conveners. Oral presentations cannot be requested, however posters may be requested and should be given priority.
If you would like to present a poster, please select the format as "poster" when submitting your abstract.
Oral presentations

・Oral presentations will be given live on-site or online via Zoom. Also, pre-recorded presentation videos can be played and viewed during the session.

・Presenters are free to choose to give their presentations either on-site or online.

・Even if all the presentations are online, they will be broadcast to the on-site local venue.

・In general, the duration is fixed at 15 minutes/talk including discussion time.

Poster presentations

・All poster presenters are required to upload their poster materials to each presenter's space on the meeting participation site "Confit." Posters may be the same as those displayed on-site, and may be used for question-and-answer sessions using the comment function of Confit.

・Each of the poster presenters is requested to give a Flash Talk during the designated time ("frame") in the corresponding Oral session.
Flash Talks for posters-only sessions (sessions without orals) will be held in a hybrid format with date and time (between AM1 and PM2) determined by the Program Committee. On-site venue will also be provided, so poster presenters can present both on-site and online.

・On-site poster presentation is optional. The presenters who wish to present on-site may display their posters in the designated area and give a presentation. The Posters area can be used all day including outside the core time.

There will be no online poster session in 2024.

Session Language

Session language is either English and/or Japanese.
Session language is selected by the session convener.
Session Language Code Slides and Posters Oral presentations
E English English
J English or Japanese (presenter's choice) English or Japanese (presenter's choice)
*In E sessions, English should be the main language used for the presentation including contents on slides and posters. Japanese may also be used where appropriate, e.g. for asking questions.

*It would be helpful if the slides and posters in J sessions could accompany English so that participants who cannot read Japanese could understand the contents.
