Director of JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2017

Hisayoshi YURIMOTO
(Hokkaido University)

As you may already know, the 2017 Meeting is a first joint meeting of the two Unions- JpGU and AGU. Beginning in 2016, JpGU and AGU colleagues collaborated to hold jointly sponsored sessions. Learning from this experience, representatives from both unions will hold hands to successfully manage the 2017 scientific programs. Moreover, there are some new developments in 2017; extension of the meeting period from 5 days to 6 days, expanded presentation area, two keynote lectures on Sunday, one additional day to the Public Day- the open program to the public participants. 2017 will be a significant and memorial year for JpGU to co-host an international meeting.

To make it a successful meeting, attractive session proposals and a large number of abstract submissions are essential. I really appreciate your kind and positive cooperation to make our meeting a fruitful one having presentations and active discussion with prospects for future generations.

Thank you.

Program Committee Co-Chairs

Tetsuo IRIFUNE
(Geodynamics Research Center, Ehime University)

Greetings! We are Huixin Liu and Tetsuo Irifune, co-chairs for JpGU-AGU joint meeting, May 20-25, 2017. The meeting covers frontier research in all areas of Space and Planetary Sciences, Atmosphere and Hydrosphere Sciences, Human Geosciences, Solid Earth Sciences, and Biogeosciences. Call for session proposal is open during Sept. 1 – Oct. 13, 2016. Abstracts submission is open during Jan. 6 – Feb. 16, 2017.

As in any good science meeting, we emphasize high-quality presentations and friendly idea-exchange atmosphere that benefits all our attendees. The program committee, consisting of members from both Unions, strives for high science return to our attendees via insights from keynotes and invited speakers, emerging new ideas from young researchers, and diverse views from various research groups. At the same time, we endeavor to continue improving the language environment by further increasing the number of English sessions and reinforcing English slides in Japanese sessions. Through these measures, we would like you to return home with updated information, new ideas, and an expanded science network.

Being the first meeting of its kind there are bound to be some issues. However, we will try our best to minimize them using lessons learned before and strive to serve you a beneficial meeting. Please join us to make the first JpGU-AGU joint meeting a successful and rewarding one with your positive attitude and high-quality presentations.
