・主な業績

田中正之氏は、東北大学等において長年にわたり地球物理学の教育研究に努め、多数の人材を育成した。その過程で大気放射学の基礎を確立し、それらを利用して、エアロゾル・雲・温室効果気体の動態把握と気候影響に関する研究を推進し、大気科学および地球惑星科学の発展に大きく貢献した。日本気象学会理事、国立極地研究所の運営協議員・評議員、総合地球環境学研究所設立時の準備調査委員、創設調査委員、設立後の評議員会長等を歴任し、地球惑星科学の研究体制の確立に貢献した。学術審議会専門委員、測地学審議会委員、同審議会気象水象部会長、同審議会地球科学特別委員長、同審議会副会長、科学技術・学術審議会委員等を歴任し、さらに日本学術会議会員として、我が国の地球惑星科学の研究の発展に指導的役割を果たした。
