About JpGU 2027
Greetings
JpGU Meeting 2027 Chair
Masanobu YAMAMOTO (Hokkaido University/ President, The Japanese Association of Organic Geochemists)
The Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is a large organization comprising 51 academic societies related to Earth and Planetary Sciences, as well as over 10,000 individual members. The JpGU 2027 Annual Meeting will be held for six days, from May 23 to 28, 2027, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City. This conference is a major event in Japan's Earth and Planetary Sciences community. Through scientific presentations, special programs, and exhibitions, it serves as a vital opportunity to advance scholarship in the field and foster exchange across disciplines and among researchers. It also provides an opportunity for academic societies that typically operate independently to gather in one place, hold joint sessions, and chart the future direction of Earth and Planetary Sciences in Japan. It also offers a special occasion for young researchers and students to showcase the results of their daily efforts. We look forward to lively discussions, information exchange, and networking among participants of all ages. We look forward to seeing you all there.
JpGU Meeting 2027 Program Committee Chair
Aki TAKIGAWA(The University of Tokyo)
The JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026, jointly organized by JpGU and AGU, concluded successfully with more than 10,000 participants, 285 sessions, and a record 6,000 presentations. Thanks to your support and cooperation, 76% of the sessions were conducted in English (E-sessions), and 83% of all presentations were given in English. This helped create an environment in which participants from overseas could more easily join the discussions. With the rising cost of international travel, the meeting also provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience an international conference here in Japan. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who participated in the meeting, and especially to the conveners who organized the sessions.
The JpGU Meeting 2027 will again be held in a hybrid format, combining on-site and online participation. To ensure that JpGU continues to provide a forum where participants from Japan and abroad can come together, engage in scientific discussions across disciplinary and national boundaries, and build new connections, we encourage conveners to continue considering organizing their sessions as E-sessions.
This year, we are also asking conveners to review their session scopes. Session scopes serve as an important gateway for participants from a wide range of backgrounds to discover and join new fields and sessions, and they also provide essential information for program planning. We therefore ask conveners to take this opportunity to ensure that each session scope clearly communicates the aims and intended audience of the session and distinguishes it from other sessions.
The meeting is made possible by the conveners who organize sessions, the researchers who present their work, and everyone who takes part in the discussions. Based on the sessions proposed by our community, the Program Committee will work to develop a program that creates opportunities for new research and interaction. We look forward to receiving a wide range of session proposals and many abstract submissions, and to welcoming many participants to the JpGU Meeting 2027.

Major Changes and Notifications
・For sessions with five or more timeslots (blocks), the on-site poster core time will be divided into two days. Each presentation will be assigned on one of the two days.
・At the Joint Meeting, all sessions were designated as E-sessions in principle. This requirement will not apply to the JpGU Meeting 2027. To help the JpGU Meeting remain a forum for scientific discussion and new connections across disciplines and national borders, we nevertheless encourage session conveners to consider organizing their sessions as E-sessions again this time.
・Beginning in early 2027, specifically when abstract submissions open, the member, submission, and public/participant sites are scheduled to begin operating on new systems.
