Overview of the Japan Geoscience Union Meeting 2027 (JpGU Meeting 2027)
Koji Wada, Chair of the Meeting Organization Committee
As in previous years, the Japan Geoscience Union Meeting 2027 will be held in a hybrid format, combining an on-site meeting at Makuhari Messe in Chiba with online participation.
The meeting will run for six days from May 23rd (SUN) through May 28th (FRI).
Please note the following new arrangements for this meeting:
- For sessions with five or more timeslots (blocks), the on-site poster core time will be divided into two days. Each presentation will be assigned on one of the two days. This arrangement reflects the higher proportion of poster presentations in large sessions and will help ensure sufficient time to evaluate entries for the Outstanding Student Presentation Award.
- Each session may appoint up to six conveners in total, including two required main conveners and any co-conveners. The limit was increased to six for the Joint Meeting last time and will remain in place to support diversity. The JpGU office will send routine session communications to all conveners. However, when an individual matter arises, the office will contact only the main conveners.
- At the Joint Meeting, all sessions were designated as E-sessions in principle. This requirement will not apply to the JpGU Meeting 2027. To help the JpGU Meeting remain a forum for scientific discussion and new connections across disciplines and national borders, we nevertheless encourage session conveners to consider organizing their sessions as E-sessions again this time.
- Beginning in early 2027, specifically when abstract submissions open, the member, submission, and public/participant sites are scheduled to begin operating on new systems. Although the new systems may work differently from the current ones, we are preparing carefully to make them easier to use. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during the transition.
Oral presentations will be delivered live during oral sessions, either on site or online via Zoom. As at the previous meeting, on-site presenters will connect their own devices, or a shared PC provided at the venue, via HDMI. Presenters may choose freely between on-site and online presentation.
For poster presentations, all presenters will again be required to post their poster materials online. Presenters may also display and present their posters at the on-site venue; there will be no live online broadcast from the poster venue. The materials posted online may be the same as those displayed on site.
We are also planning a variety of events during the meeting, including a reception and field trips, to make the meeting more rewarding for all participants. Lunchtime special lectures by recipients of the Nishida Prize will also be held. We hope you will join us.
Further details will be announced as decisions are made through the meeting website, email newsletters, and other channels. We are working diligently to make the meeting safer, more reliable, and more rewarding, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
