Greetings

Director of the JpGU Meeting 2018
Yoshiki SAITO
(Shimane University/
Geological Survey of Japan, AIST)

The Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is pleased to announce that the JpGU Meeting 2018 will be held from May 20–24, 2018 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. JpGU is an academic union that encompasses all the Earth and Planetary Sciences disciplines and related fields, organizing annual meetings since 2005.

The 2016 annual meeting was conducted with joint sessions with our coordinating Unions, the American Geophysical Union (AGU), European Geosciences Union (EGU), and Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), and was followed by JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting in 2017. The Joint Meeting 2017 successfully hosted 253 sessions, 5645 presentations, and 8450 participants from 48 countries, expanding into one of the largest Earth and Planetary Science meetings in Asia. The JpGU Meetings offer a wide selection of scientific sessions, a broad range of keynote speeches, and various types of formal and informal networking opportunities.

The forthcoming JpGU Meeting 2018 also consists of joint sessions with our partner Unions.
Session proposals for the joint sessions and regular sessions at the JpGU Meeting 2018 will be accepted from September 1 to October 12, 2017. Abstract submissions will be accepted from January 10, 2018 to February 19, 2018. We welcome your interesting session proposals and abstract submissions. All members of AGU, EGU and AOGS as well as any members of JpGU will be provided special benefits based on a memorandum signed with JpGU.

We look forward to having you attend the JpGU Meeting 2018 at Chiba, Japan.

Thank you.

2018 Program Committee Chair
Atsushi HIGUCHI(Chiba University)

I am Atsushi Higuchi, chairman of the JpGU annual meeting 2018 (hereafter JpGU2018) Program Committee. Following the successful 2017 meeting jointly held with AGU for the first time (approx. 8,450 participants and 5,600 presentations), JpGU welcomes you to meet again at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan during 20-24 May, 2018. The meeting covers research areas of Space and Planetary Sciences, Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Sciences, Human Geosciences, Solid Earth Sciences, and Biogeosciences. We also encourage multi-disciplinary approaches to these research areas. The “call for session proposal” will be out from September 01 to October 12 in 2017. I believe that JpGU is a bottom-up society, thus bottom-up session proposals from scientists are essential to activate the meeting. JpGU2018 welcomes international session proposals joint with AGU and other partner unions and societies, or with your international colleagues. Please start communicating with your colleagues to propose timely and exciting JpGU sessions. In addition, I will work towards “customer satisfaction (CS)” of all the participants to realize progress in the context of CS. You will be informed of our efforts to this end though the internet. Clearly, most of CS will be attributed by high-quality presentations and fruitful discussion in the session or outside of sessions. JpGU2018 will strive to provide such a good environment. We look forward to seeing you attending JpGU2018 in Chiba.
