Union Session Guidelines

Union Session is a session that provides a cross-sectional topic from more than two scientific fields of geoscience to the audience.
Request to hold a Union Session is accepted when conveners propose a session and is adopted by Program Committee.
Not adopted sessions will be considered as Scientific sessions.

Requirements to Propose

Union Sessions should focus on topics with a broad interest that cover interdisciplinary topic.

It should be a session that can expect a high number of audience.

Please select Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary (M)category to propose for a Union Session.

Requirements to Hold a Session

Oral presentation should be within two time slots.

Registration and abstract submissions fee are charged to invited authors as well.

The abstract submission deadline is on the same date as normal abstract submission. It is not extendable.

Privileges for Union Sessions

Conveners can request one or two time slots regardless of the number of abstracts.

There are no limits in the number of invited authors.

Only invited authors session is acceptable.

A session without poster presentations (only oral presentations) is available.

JpGU will advertise the session on posters and program books.

Important Reminders

One time slot is 90 minutes. This timeframe CANNOT be changed.

Conveners are to select a session language in the session proposal process.

No travel reimbursements, waived or discounted abstract submission and registration fee are provided to the invited authors from JpGU.

Please contact JpGU office in advance, in case conveners will pay fees for invited authors. Invited authors should also pay abstract submission fees before the deadline. Submissions without payments may be rejected.

JpGU do not have a session posters and brochures making service. In case these are needed, conveners can make these by themselves. Please note that we cannnot help to distribute these materials on site nor put them into our program books.

Session introductions and/ or pictures of conveners may be asked to be posted in JGL and/ or for the use of the press.

Presenters (Conveners can select whose abstract submission to accept in their Union Sessions. Options are as follow)

Only from invited authors.

Oral presentations only from invited authors and no limitation of presenters for poster.

No limitation on the presenters in both oral and poster presentation .


Public Session Guidelines

Public Sessions are to provide all participants with beneficial topics such as results from research on the geoscience fields, educational outreach activities etc.
It is an easy-to-understand session welcoming anyone including public participants.
Participants and presenters of Public Sessions are not charged any registration fees.
In addition to this, invited authors of Public Session are also not charged any abstract submission fees.
Request to hold a Public Session is accepted when conveners propose a session and is adopted by Program Committee.
Not adopted sessions will be considered as Scientific sessions.

Requirements to Propose

Topics for the benefits of all participants.

Contents relevant to educational outreach activities.

Requirements to Hold a Session

Public Sessions should basically be held on holidays.

Large number of Japanese audience are expected to participate in the Public Session, therefore session in Japanese are basically recommended, however JpGU office is happy to assist those sessions in English. Please contact us in advance if you'd like to have a Public Session in English.

All authors including invited authors should submit their abstracts using the online submission system.

The abstract submission deadline is on the same date as normal abstract submission. It is NOT extendable. (Except for session of high school student authors)

Privileges for Public Sessions

There is no limit on the number of the time slots. Conveners and the Program Committee will review and assign.

The abstract submission and registration fee for the day for invited authors is free of charge.

There is no limit on the number of invited authors.

A session with only invited authors, not accepting from general public is acceptable.

A session with only oral presentations is acceptable.

JpGU will advertise the session on posters and program books.

Public participants are required to make a registration through “Public Session Registration System.” Registration is available on the site as well.
