Greetings

JpGU Meeting 2019 Chair
Kaoru TAKARA (Kyoto University)
Socio-economic impacts, which natural phenomena on the earth induce, affect not only a country but also a region and all over the world, as various global risks. Geoscience is a basic science that deals with the cause and related environment of global risks for clarifying mechanisms, predicting phenomena and proposing countermeasures, with aspects of an applied science and a compound science.

In this sense, it is very important that recently the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) has been promoting Joint Sessions with the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) and the European Geosciences Union (EGU) and successfully hosted the 1st JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting in 2017. I believe such activities should be further encouraged and developed. I understand that the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting will be organized again in 2020 when the Tokyo Olympic Games will take place.

The 2019 JpGU Meeting will be held at the Makuhari Messe, International Convention Complex in Chiba, Japan on May 26-30, 2019. I hope that many participants will continue further their various sessions previously proposed and organized and welcome new innovative, interdisciplinary and international session proposals. Kindly consider the forthcoming JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting in 2020. Active paper submission is also encouraged and welcome to many attractive sessions proposed and approved.

Any endeavors are very important to disseminate information about the research activities and outcomes to be properly recognized not only by scientist communities but also by organizations, policy/decision makers, industries and people in general, who intend to develop a sustainable, safe and secured society. I really hope that the JpGU will play roles of a state-of-the-art event that provides advanced geoscientific activities and of forum for exchanging information and ideas among scientists and various people’s societies, and will continue its activities for further development. Thank you very much for your active participation and cooperation.

2019 Program Committee Chair
Kazuaki HORI (Nagoya University)
The JpGU 2019 annual meeting will be held on the international convention complex "Makuhari Messe" in Chiba from May 26 to 30, 2019.
The “call for session proposal” will be opened from September 3 to October 12, 2018. Abstract submissions will be accepted from January 8 to February 19, 2019.
JpGU covers a wide range of earth and planetary sciences; Space and Planetary Sciences, Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Sciences, Human Geosciences, Solid Earth Sciences, and Biogeosciences.
The JpGU annual meeting provides participants with a good opportunity to know cutting-edge research and unique approaches to research object in not only their own special field but also outside their field.
Participants from overseas and the general public including high school students are on an increasing trend, and the JpGU annual meeting has been recognized as international conferences to be held annually in Japan and an important venue for outreach activity and for communication between high school students learning earth and planetary sciences.
In order to enrich the quality and quantity of JpGU2019 and the following JpGU2020 jointly held with AGU, the program committee reviewed the issues raised in the past meetings and revised the regulation on abstract submissions and convener guidelines.
These revisions may cause some inconveniences to participants, but we appreciate your understanding.
We welcome your interesting session proposals and submission of cool researches.

Changes in registration fees (Oct 3, 2018)
At the council meeting of the Japan Geoscience Union held on 28th September,2018, the proper registration fee was discussed, and the registration fee for regular members, students and teachers was judged to be appropriate.
Up until now, regular members over 70 years old have been granted free of charge as an exception, but it has been decided that it is desirable to apply the same discount rate as graduate students and teachers, so we will revise it here.
We apologize for the mistake that the registration fee up to the 2018 JpGU annual meeting was posted on the website until September 2019. (Chairman of the Finance Committee)
