Scope The Kuroshio Large Meander that started in August 2017 is the second longest historic event in the observed record, next to the event in 1975-1980 (4 years and 8 months). In October 2020, a massive eddy separation occurred, and the Kuroshio path is beginning to take shape in a way that has not been seen before. There are strong public interests on the possible impacts of the Kuroshio Large Meander on fisheries and other phenomena along the coast. However, the actual impacts have not been well investigated. In addition, new findings such as the impacts of the Kuroshio Large Meander on weather are emerging. This session aims to shed light on this intriguing phenomenon by discussing its trends, dynamics, impacts, and comparison with past examples. Presentations from a variety of perspectives in the fields of ocean physics, biology, chemistry, and atmospheric effects will be welcomed.
