Scope The global ocean is complementary covered by variable kinds of observing networks such as Argo, GO-SHIP, OceanSITES, earth observing satellite, then its observing network is crucial for research, monitoring and future predictions of climate changes and ocean environment. Besides, the ocean observing networks are also recognized as infrastructures for research, human societies, and industries in the SDGs and the UN Decade, which is suggested to achieve their goals and to develop the network within 10 years. In the session held previously, we discussed the status and future perspective on the ocean observing network, following themes in OceanObs19, etc., exchanging current information. After the previous session, the roadmap2020 for progress of the global ocean observation had been suggested, the GO BGC Argo project was accepted by the National Science Foundation in 2020, and the UN Decade starts from 2021. Under these circumstances, the target of this session is to host a meeting exchanging information on the recent status of the observing networks, and discussing for future perspectives regarding pilot studies of large-scale ocean observations, OSE and OSSE for the ocean observing networks, development of sensor and platform technologies. At the same time, we would like to share information of current research results regarding large-scale heat, freshwater, material transports, physical and biogeochemical mechanisms of water mass formation and modification, air-sea interaction, and developing measurement sensors and data quality controls contributing to those researches, overarching variable research fields.
