Major Changes for Students

・Student status check scheme has changed for those who have obtained the graduate student category ID on and before 2019.
See Student Discount for Graduate Student for details.

・The student status check should be completed in order to proceed the payment of annual dues.

・The payment of the annual dues are required before submitting an abstract.

・The only payment method acceptable for the payment of annual dues, abstract fees and registration fees is by credit cards. The bank transfer by the affiliated institutes is no longer available. If you do not have a credit card, bank transfer is accepted with additional administrative fee.

How to Register for JpGU-AGU 2020

Presenters of the poster session:
The link to register all attendees from the same school will be distributed to the applicant(teacher in charge). Please proceed the registration using the provided link.

Non-presenters:
If you are attending as field trip, school event or club activity, contact us using the Contact form. We will sent the details on how to register by email.

Individual Participation:
Registration is available from Public Attendance Registration if you are attending on Sunday. You will be asked to enter your information such as name and contact info. The Public Registration is planned to open on March 14.
To attend sessions on Monday through Thursday, please obtain a JpGU ID and make a registration from the members account. This is also free of charge if you are a school student.
Please present your student ID at the gate.



Elementary & Junior High School Students

Registration is available from Public Attendance Registration if you are attending on Sunday. You will be asked to enter your information such as name and contact info. The Public Registration is planned to open on March 14.
To attend sessions on Monday through Thursday, please obtain a JpGU ID and make a registration from the members account. This is also free of charge if you are a school student.
Junior high school students should present the student IDs at the gate.
If you are younger than junior high school student, please present any kind og identification that we can verify your age.


Undergraduate Students & Senior High School Students (not presenting at the poster session)

To register for the meeting, the student needs to obtain a JpGU ID. After getting the ID, access the JpGU Account page and log in using your JpGU ID credentials. After logging in, click and open the 'JpGU Meeting' tab on the left side menu bar and proceed from the 'Meeting Registration' button.
Undergraduate students can choose their ID category from either JpGU Members (Associate Member ID) or Nonmember ID. Both IDs require no annual dues.
*The Associate Member ID has no expiration date. The ID will be valid until you take the required action to delete the account.
The Nonmember ID will be deleted automatically in the end of August of the fiscal year your obtain it.
*To attend the meeting free of charge, student with these membership categories should present the student IDs written either in English or Japanese at the gate.
Please note that you may be charged the registration fee if you do not present the student ID card.



Graduate Student

The discounted rate will be applied after completing the student status verification.

The definition of Graduate Student category in JpGU is,
'A graduate student' and 'individuals who graduated from the university and currently are enrolled at a graduate school and paying the tuition'
*The confirmation request is automatically send to supervisors but students are advised to explain the required procedures by themselves and directly ask for cooperation.

Poster Presentation By High School Students


One of the goals of our meetings is to encourage young students to enhance their knowledges in geoscience and presentation skills.
Poster presentation is one of the opportunity for high school students to improve their skills.
By participating in poster presentation, students get positive comments from great scientists and have a chance to make presentations to a large audience.
Posters not only in Japanese but also in English are also welcomed.

Student Discount for Graduate Students

Graduate students can attend the meeting in a discounted rate by completing the student discount application process.
(Since 2018, the rule has changed and all graduate students must renew the student status to extend the student discount every year.)
Students Obtaining a New JpGU ID The supervisor registration is asked when entering your personal information to create an ID.
The auto-email is sent to your supervisor requesting your student status confirmation. After being confirmed, your ID will be issued and you will be informed by email.
*The supervisor doesn't need to hold a JpGU ID, but if he/ she has one, we strongly advise students not to skip the input of the JpGU ID. If the JpGU ID is correctly registered, the supervisor are able to confirm a student status request by logging in to their JpGU account system. This will help your ID creation if the auto-email cannot be found.
*JpGU ID is required to log in to the JpGU Members Site, register for the meeting and submit abstracts.
*The email may be classified as a junk and sent to the junk/ spam email folder. Students are advised to directly contact their supervisors for cooperation.
Students with JpGU ID After logging in to the personal account on the JpGU Members Site, click the 'Account Settings' button and proceed from the 'Student Discount Application.' By entering the information of your supervisor, the auto-email is sent to him/ her.
Applicant (Student) OPERATION CHANGED!
The student status confirmation procedure will be automatically completed right after the confirmation request is sent to your supervisor. If there is no change in your student status, no action is required and you will be able to proceed the payment of the annual dues, register for the meeting and submit abstracts.
Supervisor No action is required if you can guarantee the student status of the applicant.
Please just let us know if the applicant is not qualified as "student."
*Please note that we might cancel the student discount if we receive a negative contact from the supervisor. In such case, the membership category of the applicant will be changed to "Regular" and the regular fees will be charged.
Please also be noted that if we receive a contact after the meeting in May and the individual attended the meeting as a student, we may ask to pay the balance due later.

Outstanding Student Presentation Award (OSPA)

Outstanding Student Presentation Award (OSPA) is given to the top student presenters in each section.

Student Travel Support

The travel suppport for students to attend the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2020 will be available through JpGU and AGU.
JpGU and AGU are jointly coordinating the travel support for the Joint Meeting 2020.

Why don’t you earn money while attending the 2020 meeting?
JpGU offers a part time job to students residing in Japan during the meeting.
More information on part time job will be informed on JpGU mailnews.

Application starts in the end of March.
