Current progress in inner magnetospheric physics
Scope
Despite extensive research, the physics of Earth's inner magnetosphere is far from perfectly understood. This session invites recent research results on plasma processes in the inner magnetosphere, including studies on the radiation belts, plasmasphere, ionosphere, and ring current. In particular, papers are invited that explore the linkages between these key components of the magnetosphere, e.g., how do structural variations of the inner magnetospheric field due to the storm-time ring current control electron radiation belt dynamics? how is the generation and global distribution of energetic electrons in the outer zone influenced by the spatial distribution of thermal plasma in the plasmasphere and plasmaspheric plumes? how important are nonlinear wave-particle interactions in controlling particle dynamics in the inner magnetosphere? Theoretical, observational, modeling and simulation studies that address these and other fundamental questions on inner magnetospheric physics are welcome.
