Geoscience has become increasingly transdisciplinary, and it is not uncommon for both geoscience researchers and educators to work across disciplinary boundaries to address global challenges with non-academic partners. However, with a tightening funding situation and changing strategic priorities, scientists are often required to focus on a narrower and shifting range of priorities that are specific to their own countries.

As our AGU/JpGU Union Session series on the linkages between research and education in Earth and space sciences approaches its 10th anniversary, we would like to invite presentations highlighting the significance of international collaborations given the uncertainties in the national funding and policy environments. In this session, we would also like to explore the evolving perspectives of community partners and local/national governments in transdisciplinary projects led by geoscientists. Contributions from students and scientists from different career stages, and both reviews and case studies featuring highly collaborative research-education initiatives across national borders are particularly welcome.
