| スコープ | The physical and chemical characterization of crystals in igneous rocks can be used to document magma system parameters (e.g., composition, temperature, pressure, oxygen fugacity, volatile content) and processes (e.g., fractional crystallization, degassing, magma mixing, crustal assimilation). Textural and compositional variations at the scale of a single crystal, pumice clast, or stratigraphic section can reveal how such parameters and processes evolve over timescales ranging from hours to millennia. Such reconstructions provide necessary contributions to our understanding of the behaviour of volcanoes and their underlying magma reservoirs.
This session will showcase research that aims to clarify the mechanisms and rates of magma generation, storage, extraction, ascent, and eruption, through the analysis of crystals and associated glasses, such as melt inclusions and embayments, in magmatic rocks. We welcome contributions from all volcano-tectonic settings that have utilized any of the following techniques: textural analysis, electron probe microanalysis, mass spectrometry; Raman and infrared spectroscopy; experimental petrology; diffusion chronometry; thermodynamic modelling. |
