スコープ This session focuses on advancing the scientific understanding of tropical cyclone genesis, intensification, and their interactions with large-scale atmospheric systems under a changing climate. Tropical cyclones are among the most destructive natural phenomena, yet their formation and rapid intensification remain only partially understood. The session seeks to bridge current gaps by integrating insights from observational studies, theoretical frameworks, and numerical modelling, while also exploring the emerging roles of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in improving prediction and analysis. A major emphasis will be placed on the coupling between tropical cyclones and large-scale phenomena such as tropical waves and atmospheric rivers (ARs), which play critical roles in modulating genesis environments, moisture transport, and precipitation extremes. The session will also examine how anthropogenic climate change alters environmental preconditions such as sea surface temperature, vertical wind shear, and humidity affecting cyclone frequency, intensity, and regional distribution. By bringing together researchers across disciplines, this session aims to synthesize progress on cyclone-environment interactions, highlight recent advancements in numerical weather prediction, and evaluate how innovative AI/ML-based approaches can enhance operational forecasting skill. Furthermore, it encourages discussion on climate attribution studies, regional impacts, and future research directions relevant to both scientific understanding and disaster preparedness. The session welcomes contributions addressing cyclone genesis triggers, air-sea interactions, rapid intensification mechanisms, tropical disturbance dynamics, atmospheric river cyclone coupling, and climate change projections. It is intended for atmospheric scientists, climate researchers, operational forecasters, and professionals engaged in extreme weather and risk reduction.
