近年の地球温暖化に伴う気候変動が自然界のフィードバックを介して最も顕著に現れるのが、北極圏およびその周極地域である。特に近年顕著な海氷面積の減少、氷河・氷床・永久凍土の融解、水産資源の変化、北極圏とその周辺の異常気象などは、社会的な関心も高く、そのプロセスの理解のために気圏―水圏―陸圏―雪氷圏の総合的・学際的な研究が進行中である。2007年から継続している本セッション「北極域の科学」では、北極域の温暖化、水循環、生態系、大気上下結合など、北極域で起こっている諸現象を包括的に探求するとともに、先端研究の最新情報を共有して総合的議論を深めることを目的とする。北極研究を取り巻く現状に鑑み、人文・社会科学分野および学際的分野における研究成果の発表も歓迎する。 |
