The development of clean, green, and renewable energy resources has become a priority for decision-makers, investors, developers, and researchers to reach zero net anthropogenic Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during the second half of the 21st century. Ocean Renewable Energies (such as tidal, wind, and wave energies) with vast resources present a sustainable solution to address current and future electricity demand, particularly in areas adjacent to coastal zones. However, the ocean renewable energy resource is affected by intra-annual variability and longer-term variability due to changes in the climate. Moreover, developing advanced energy converters that operate efficiently under various ocean conditions is essential to harvesting ocean renewable energy. However, the environmental impacts of ocean energy farms are yet under investigation. Hence, it is critical to consider the potential environmental impacts on design and locating the technologies for harvesting the ocean energy and minimize the negative impacts. This session welcomes presentations across a wide range of themes related to ocean renewable energy, including resources, impacts, and technologies. In addition, we especially welcome the contributions to novel achievements and findings regarding the environmental impacts of ocean renewable energies. |
