Scope (Session Description) |
Feedbacks between surface and deep Earth processes play a key role in the plate tectonics, modulating mountain building, rifting, magmatism, intraplate deformation and the interactions between landscape and climate. While each process has been well established in recent decades due to advances in data acquisition, theoretical development and numerical techniques, the details of these interactions remain poorly constrained. In this session, we focus on investigation of the linkage between deformation and rheology in the lithosphere with erosion and erodibility in the near surface across a range of spatiotemporal scales. We thus invite submissions treating numerical modeling, field investigations, laboratory experiments, theoretical developments to address the coupling between deep Earth and surface processes, including processes at subduction zones and mid ocean ridges. Potential outcomes of the session will lead to the development of frameworks for closer collaboration. |
