Scope Large-scale disasters including severe storms and floods intensified by climate change, the simultaneous flooding from rivers and coast, the cascading of damages from earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear power plants and fires, the impact of volcanic eruptions and heavy rains on ash and the impact of aviation, and economic losses through the supply chain, have all characteristics of multi-hazard and compound disasters. Each section of JpGU discusses different hazard mechanisms and their impacts. This union session aims to extract common knowledge about the chain of damage and the interactions by bringing together the disaster processes, prevention and mitigation related to various hazards that have been discussed in each section so far, and focusing on complex disasters. In this way, we will develop discussions that will contribute to the building of a resilient society.
