Public Session Guidelines
Public Session Guidelines (ver.3 as of OCT/1/2021)

One of the aims of public sessions is to provide public attendees with the frontier research results and beneficial topics on geoscience fields. Another purpose is to encourage interaction between public attendees and scientists.
Public sessions are open to any kind of participants for free.
Registration and abstract submission fee are free of charge for presenters of public sessions.
Conveners who wish to hold a public session may send a request to the Program Committee in the designated form and then the committee will review and approve or reject the request.
Sessions not approved as public session will be accepted as a regular scientific session.

Requirements for Proposals
The target of public session is public attendees including junior and high school students.
Public sessions must fulfill at least one of the requirements described below.
- The content must include the frontier research results and beneficial topics on geoscience fields.
- The session should focus on the outreach interaction between public attendees or junior and high school students.
Requirements to Hold a Session
- Public sessions are held on Sunday, the Public Day. Conveners requesting to hold a public session must be able to convene a session on this day.
-Most of the audience are expected to be only Japanese speaking attendees.
For their benefit, presentations must be delivered in Japanese.
JpGU does not provide language support, nor interpretation however, non-Japanese speaking conveners who can arrange a language support on their own may submit a proposal to hold a public session.
-All presenters including invited authors must submit abstracts using the online submission tool.
-Presenters must submit their abstracts within the abstract submission period.
Submission after the abstract submission deadline is not accepted in any case.
(Except for the poster presentation session by high school students)
Benefits for Public Sessions
- Public sessions receive oral slots regardless of the number of submissions received to their sessions.
Slots are assigned by the Program Committee.
- Abstract submission fee and registration fee for the date of presentation is free of charge.
- The session should consist of invited talks only (except for poster presentation session by high school students).
- There is no limit in the number of invited authors.
- Conveners can decide from whom they will accept submissions and may hold an invited-only session.
- Oral-only session is available.
- JpGU will promote the session in the publications and on the website.
-JpGU may provide financial support (up to 100,000 JPY/ session) for the travel expenses of presenters of public session that will only present at a public session and attend the meeting only on the date of presentation.
The recipient of this support cannot be a convener of the session nor a chairperson.
Please note that the financial support applies only when the meeting is fully on-site; hybrid meeting does not apply.
Important Notes
-JpGU may request for a plain-language summary and/ or pictures of conveners to make promotion materials to JGL and/ or other publications.
-All public attendees are required either of the pre-registration from the JpGU Public Participation Registration system or on-site registration in order to attend public sessions.
