Scope | Buratamori is a Saturday prime-time TV show of NHK (Japanese public broadcasting). Each episode features geoscience of a region including geography, geology, history and ecology, and local experts host a comedian named Tamori, who has a wide knowledge and a female announcer, who represents ordinary citizen. Such a style of the show has been popular among people in this decade and geoscience experts also highly regard the show. In this session, directors and previous hosts of the show describe its making process from each point of the view. Since the show needs to reach widely, bold simplification of complex scientific context is sometimes unavoidable, and this makes tension between the producers and experts. Through the session, we would like to discuss how the experts can make a simple but adequate explanation for geoscience issues to wide audience. | |
