ScopeAs per the United Nations estimates, the world population reached 7.3 billion as of mid-2015, implying that world has added approximately one billion people in the span of the last 12 years. The total population on earth is predicted to increase by more than one billion people within the next 15 years, reaching 8.5 billion in 2030, and to increase further to 9.7 billion in 2050 and 11.2 billion by 2100. Urban planning and management plays an important role in achieving the social sustainability through geosciences, environmental sustainability for urban transformation. Over the next generation of greatest increase in population, in production and in poverty will occur in cities in Asia and Africa. Due to this rapid urbanization and industrialization, the problems of urban organizational management, which often linked with geosciences and other socio-political aspects include, management of different urban planning and management, disaster management and resources mobilization, coastal zone management etc. for sustainable urban development will need better understanding of geosciences and linked with societal issues .Therefore it would be necessary to study the urban policies for sustainable development in Developed countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific and its impacts on the public life and also on the social-economic development of the urban region through systematic study of geosciences. This joint session will open up the opportunity for the researchers, scientists and students from AGU, EGU and AOGS to present their research/case studies on this topic and to network for future joint research programs. The joint session focuses on policy formulation for resources planning, coastal risk and vulnerability, social-ecological vulnerability and disaster resilience in coastal communities, Human Pressures on Coastal Environments, land water-seawater interactions for sustaining urban development in Asia-Pacific, Europe, South America and Africa region.
