{"id":904,"date":"2017-08-09T17:41:53","date_gmt":"2017-08-09T08:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/?p=904"},"modified":"2018-08-30T17:00:26","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T08:00:26","slug":"regarding-the-2018-jpgu-fellowship-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/news\/2017\/904\/","title":{"rendered":"Regarding the 2018 JpGU Fellowship Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div id=\"contents\">\n\t\t\tThe Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is now accepting recommendations for candidates for the 2018 JpGU Fellowship Program.<br \/>\n\t\t\tFellowship Program confer fellowship honors upon individuals who have rendered conspicuous contributions to the field of geoscience of Japan.<br \/>\n\t\t\tPlease <a href=\"\/aboutjpgu\/rules\/\" target=\"_blank\">refer to regurations<\/a> (only available in Japanese) to learn more<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tFellowship nominees shall be put forward by a recommender. They shall then be recommended from among the nominations reviewed by the JpGU Fellowship Evaluation Committee, it acting as an advisory body to the JpGU Chairman.  Successful nominees shall be those from among the recommended nominations who are then approved by the JpGU Board of Directors.  There are no restrictions in place with respect to either the age of fellows or the number of fellowships granted.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t1. JpGU Fellowship Nominees <\/p>\n<div class=\"indent\">Individuals who have made contributions to the field of geoscience research in Japan by making significant discoveries breakthroughs or paradigm shift, or contributing to the development of Japanese geoscience and the dissemination of geoscientific knowledge.<\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\t2. Qualifications that should be met by JpGU Fellows <\/p>\n<div class=\"indent\">It does not matter whether they have JpGU membership or not.<br \/>\n\t\t\tHowever, the following persons shall be unable to be nominated.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"prize\">\n<li>Current JpGU Directors, Secretaries, Section Presidents<\/li>\n<li>Members of the JpGU Fellowships Evaluation Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t\t\t3. Nomination Format <\/p>\n<div class=\"indent\">The person who is making a JpGU Fellowship nomination <!--(hereinafter the \u201cprincipal nominator\u201d)--><br \/>\n\t\t\t shall do so by sending a written nomination to the JpGU President in which the following information is contained by email.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"prize\">\n<li>The name and contact details of the nominee<br \/>\n\t\t\t* Please follow the format. <a href=\"\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/2018fellow_contact_format_e-2.docx\" target=\"_blank\">>> Format Download <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"img\/icons\/icon_docu.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:baseline;\"><\/a><br \/>\n\t\t\tTheir affiliated institution,<br \/>\n\t\t\tAddress,<br \/>\n\t\t\tTelephone number<br \/>\n\t\t\tEmail address.\n\t\t\t <\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"indent\">*Note there is no specified format that must be followed for below items.<\/div>\n<li>The nominee&#8217;s history (Their special field, Their research history, Their awards history, Their contributions with regard to universities, research institutions and learned societies, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>A list of five major original papers or patents, etc., of the nominee, along with the excerpts thereof<\/li>\n<li>A list of all of their original papers.<\/li>\n<li>A letter setting out the reasons for nomination (expressed in two A4 pages or less, in either Japanese or English)<\/li>\n<li>Major achievements (either in English (less than 800 characters) or in Japanese (less than 400 characters))<\/li>\n<li>Short citation<\/li>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">120 ~ 250 characters. Please use the following format; &#8220;for outstanding contributions to (special fields, areas, etc.).&#8221;<br \/>\n\t\t\tPlease refer to <a href=\"\/en\/jpgufellow\/\" target=\"_blank\">JpGU Fellows<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<li>Three letters of support (of one A4 page each, in either Japanese or English, the inclusion of multiple names on letters of support is acceptable, by three supporters except for nominator)<\/li>\n<li>The name and contact details of the <!--principal -->nominator (their address, telephone number and email address, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t\t\t4. Nomination <\/p>\n<div class=\"indent\">Nomination must be sent within the nomination period for the applicable year in question in the form of a word file and a PDF version thereof, by email addressed to the Office for the JpGU Fellow (<span class=\"moz-txt-link-abbreviated\">jpgu_fellow(at)icloud.com<\/span>). Supplemental publications can be provided only in PDF format.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"prize\">\n<li>Please put required items into a pdf file and a word file (25MByte or below.)<\/li>\n<li>Subject of e-mail should be \u201cJpGU\u30d5\u30a7\u30ed\u30fc\u63a8\u85a6\u66f8\uff08\u5019\u88dc\u8005\u6c0f\u540d\uff09\u201d or &#8220;Nomination of JpGU Fellow ( nominee&#8217;s name )&#8221; .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"indent\">* You should be receiving an email confirmation of your inquiry within 1 week.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>If you do not receive a confirmation by e-mail within 1week, please contact us.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Without the email confirmation, your nomination will be invalid.<\/strong><\/span><\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\t5. JpGU Fellowship Presentation Ceremonies <\/p>\n<ul class=\"prize\">\n<li>Presentation ceremonies for JpGU Fellowships shall be held at the JpGU Union Meeting, and medals shall be conferred upon the awardees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t\t\t6. JpGU Fellowship Evaluation Committee <\/p>\n<ul class=\"prize\">\n<li>Members of the JpGU Fellowship Evaluation Committee shall be appointed by the President after deliberations by the Board of Directors.<\/li>\n<li>There shall be five members of the evaluation committee, with the term of Committee for each being two years. Each year, half of their number (either two or three members) shall be subject to reappointment.  That being said, however, at the outset, two committee members shall be offset by being appointed to an initial term of Committee of three years.<\/li>\n<li>Committee members shall be selected drawing on the JpGU membership while taking into consideration allocations of the different science sections.<\/li>\n<li>The committee chairman shall be appointed by the JpGU President.<\/li>\n<li>The names of committee members shall be published at such times as when a term of Committee concludes and committee member appointments occur.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t\t\t7. Deadline of recommendation<\/p>\n<div class=\"indent\">December 31, 2017 (JST)<\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\t8.
