Please refer to the latest information.<\/strong><\/center><center><strong>Japan Geoscience Union Fellowships Program<\/strong><\/center><\/p>\n<p class=\"justifyright\">\n<div align=\"right\">October 11th, 2013<br \/>Fellowships Program Preparations Committee<\/div>\n<p class=\"justifyright\">\n<p>The Japan Geoscience Union (hereinafter \u201cJpGU\u201d), a public interest incorporated association, has established the Japan Geoscience Union Fellowships Program in order to confer fellowship honors upon individuals who have either rendered conspicuous contributions to the field of geoscience, or whose distinguished contributions to JpGU activities have been highly evaluated by JpGU.  Fellowship nominees shall be put forward by JpGU members.  They shall then be recommended from among the nominations reviewed by the JpGU Fellowships Evaluation Committee, it acting as an advisory body to the JpGU Chairman.  Successful nominees shall be those from among the recommended nominations who are then approved by the JpGU Executive Board.  There are no restrictions in place with respect to either the age of fellows or the number of fellowships granted.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u3000The fellowship selection schedule for a designated fiscal year shall be as follows:  <br \/>    \u25cfOctober to December of the previous fiscal year \u2013 nomination period for JpGU members <br \/>    \u25cfJanuary to March of the previous fiscal year \u2013 JpGU Fellowships Evaluation Committee deliberations period <br \/>    \u25cfExecutive Board Meeting held in March of the applicable year \u2013 approval by the JpGU Executive Board<br \/>    \u25cfUnion Meeting held in the applicable year \u2013 JpGU Fellowship presentation ceremonies and commemorative lectures<br \/>\u2003<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u3000JpGU Fellowship Nominees<br \/>At the time of nomination, nominees shall have held JpGU membership for the span of the previous three fiscal years.  However, the following persons shall be unable to be nominated. <br \/>    \u25cfCurrent JpGU Executives, Auditors, Section Presidents<br \/>    \u25cfMembers of the JpGU Fellowships Evaluation Committee<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u3000Qualifications that should be met by JpGU Fellows<br \/>    \u25cfMembers, who through paradigm shift, breakthroughs or significant discoveries etc., in the field of geoscience research, have made significant contributions to the development of geoscience.<\/p>\n<p>    or<\/p>\n<p>    \u25cfMembers, who through conspicuous contributions to JpGU activities, have either contributed to the development of Japanese geoscience, or have contributed to the dissemination of geoscientific knowledge. <\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u3000Nomination Format<br \/>The JpGU member making a JpGU Fellowship nomination (hereinafter the \u201cprincipal nominator\u201d) shall do so by sending a written nomination to the JpGU Chairman in which the following information is contained.  Note there is no specified format that must be followed. <br \/>    \u25cfThe name and contact details of the nominee (their affiliated institution, address, telephone number and email address, etc.)<br \/>    \u25cfThe nominee\u2019s history<br \/>    \u3000\u3000\u30fbTheir research history<br \/>    \u3000\u3000\u30fbTheir awards history<br \/>    \u3000\u3000\u30fbTheir contributions with regard to universities, research institutions and learned societies, etc.<br \/>    \u25cfA list of five major original papers or patents, etc., of the nominee, along with the excerpts thereof<br \/>    \u25cfA letter setting out the reasons for nomination (expressed in two A4 pages or less, in either Japanese or English) <br \/>    \u25cfThree letters of support (of one A4 page each, in either Japanese or English, the inclusion of multiple names on letters of support is acceptable)<br \/>    \u25cfThe name and contact details of the principal nominator (their address, telephone number and email address, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u3000JpGU Fellowship Presentation Ceremonies<br \/>    \u25cfPresentation ceremonies for JpGU Fellowships shall be held at the JpGU Union Meeting, and medals shall be conferred upon the awardees.<br \/>    \u25cfLectures commemorating the awarding of fellowships shall be held at the Japan Geoscience Union Meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u3000JpGU Fellowships Evaluation Committee<br \/>    \u25cfMembers of the JpGU Fellowships Evaluation Committee shall be appointed by the President after deliberations by the Executive Board. <br \/>    \u25cfThere shall be five members of the evaluation committee, with the term of office for each being two years.  Each year, half of their number (either two or three members) shall be subject to reappointment.  That being said, however, at the outset, two committee members shall be offset by being appointed to an initial term of office of three years.<br \/>    \u25cfCommittee members shall be selected drawing on the JpGU membership while taking into consideration allocations of the different science sections.<br \/>    \u25cfThe committee chairman shall be appointed by the JpGU President.<br \/>    \u25cfThe names of committee members shall be published at such times as when a term of office concludes and committee member appointments occur.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>!
