{"id":4786,"date":"2025-07-17T14:27:34","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T05:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/?page_id=4786"},"modified":"2025-08-04T09:35:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T00:35:01","slug":"2026representatives-election","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/2026representatives-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Announcement of the 2026 JpGU Representative Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"contents\">\r\n\r\n<p align=\"left\">\r\nThe term of office of those who were elected in the 2024 JpGU\r\nRepresentative Election is due to expire on March 31st, 2026.\r\nJpGU will hold the 2026 JpGU Representative Election to choose new\r\nrepresentatives to replace them.\r\n\r\n<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\nElection Administration Committee members<br\/>\r\nJin Hidekatsu, Kaneko Masanori, Narita Shohei,\r\nNishi Masayuki, Sugito Nobuhiko, Taguchi Bunmei\r\n<br\/>\r\n<br\/><br\/>\r\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\"\/>\r\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>2026 JpGU Representative Election Rules and Procedures<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p align=\"left\">\r\n\r\n1.Voters<br\/>\r\nAnyone who is approved as JpGU member until the day before the official announcement of representative election is eligible to vote. Each electoral zone will choose a fixed number of representatives. Voters can cast votes for one or more candidates in their electoral zone, the maximum number of votes per voter being half of the number of representatives to be chosen for their electoral zone.\r\n<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\n2.Candidates<br\/>\r\nAnyone who is approved as JpGU member until the day before the official announcement of representative election is eligible to be a candidate in the representative election.\r\n<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\n3.Term<br\/>\r\nThose who are elected will serve a two year term starting from April\r\n1st 2026 to March 31st 2028.<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\n4.Standing as a candidate<br\/>\r\nJpGU members may put themselves forward as candidates and they may\r\nalso recommend other members who they think would make good\r\ncandidates. Members who recommend others for candidacy must obtain\r\nconsent from their proposed candidate before submitting their\r\nrecommendation. Both submitting oneself as a candidate and\r\nrecommending others is done online using the JpGU Member\u2019s Site.<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\n5.Deadline for Submission of Candidacy<br\/>\r\nThose who wish to be a candidate or to recommend others as candidates\r\nmust submit the relevant online form by 5pm Japan time on September\r\n11st 2025.<br\/><br\/>\r\n6. Declination<br\/>\r\n\u3000Declination during the period for notification of candidacy, etc. will not be accepted.\r\nCandidates may withdraw from candidacy by submitting a candidate withdrawal form to the Election Committee at least 7 days prior to the day before the start of voting.\r\nIf a candidate declines between the date of election and 60 days after the start of the term, the runner-up will be elected.\r\n7.Number of Representatives to be Elected<br\/>\r\nThe total number of representatives is fixed at 150.\r\n5 representatives are automatically assigned to each of the six\r\nelectoral zones (for a total of 30 representatives).\r\nThe remaining 120 representatives are assigned to the electoral\r\nzones in direct proportion to the number of regular JpGU members in\r\neach zone as of July 31st 2025.<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\nFor the 2026 JpGU Representative Election the number of\r\nrepresentatives for each electoral zone is shown below.<br\/>\r\n<br\/>\r\nSpace and Planetary Sciences: 23<br\/>\r\nAtmospheric and Hydrospheric Sciences: 34<br\/>\r\nHuman Geosciences: 17<br\/>\r\nSolid Earth Sciences: 44<br\/>\r\nBiogeosciences: 13<br\/>\r\nGeneral Geoscience: 19<br\/>\r\nTotal: 150<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\n8.Schedule<br\/>\r\nOfficial announcement of Representative Election: Friday August 1st 2025<br\/>\r\nPeriod for submission of candidacy starts:9am on Tuesday August 12th 2025<br\/>\r\nPeriod for submission of candidacy ends:5pm on Thursday September 11th 2025<br\/>\r\nVoting starts: 9am on Wednesday October 1st 2025<br\/>\r\nVoting ends: 5pm on Friday October 31st 2025<br\/>\r\nAnnouncement of results: Monday November 10th 2025<br\/>\r\n\r\n*All dates and times are in Japan Standard Time (UTC+09:00).<br\/><br\/>\r\n\r\n9.How to vote<br\/>\r\nEach regular member can vote for up to half of the number of\r\nrepresentatives to be chosen for their electoral zone (rounded up if\r\nthe number of representatives is an odd number)\r\nVotes are cast online using the JpGU Membership System.\r\n<br\/><br\/>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\"\/>\r\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Forms and Regulations<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p align=\"left\">\r\n1.Forms <br\/>\r\nTo stand as a candidate: log-in to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpgu-member.org\/jpgu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the JpGU Members Site <i class=\"fa fa-external-link\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/a><\/span> and fill in and submit the &#8220;Stand as a Candidate&#8221; form.<br\/><br\/>\r\nTo recomnmend a candidate: log-in to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpgu-member.org\/jpgu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the JpGU Members Site <i class=\"fa fa-external-link\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/a><\/span> and fill in and submit the &#8220;Recommend a Candidate&#8221; form.<br\/><br\/>\r\n2.Regulations<br\/>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/senkyokanriiinkai.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regulations of  the Election Management Committee<\/a><\/span> (only available in Japanese)<br\/>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/daigiinsenkyokisoku.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regulations of the Representative Election<\/a><\/span> (only available in Japanese)<br\/>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/daigiinsenkyozissikisoku.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Detailed Regulations of the Representative Election<\/a><\/span> (only available in Japanese)<br\/><br\/><br\/>\r\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\"\/>\r\nAll rules, procedures, dates and times etc. governing the JpGU Representative Election are formally announced in Japanese.
