{"id":3594,"date":"2023-09-07T12:01:06","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T03:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/?page_id=3594"},"modified":"2023-10-31T11:45:45","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T02:45:45","slug":"2024fellow","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/2024fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"2024 JpGU Fellowship Program"},"content":{"rendered":"The Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is now accepting nominations of candidates for the 2024 JpGU Fellow.<br><br>\r\n\r\nFellowship nominees shall be put forward by a recommender. They shall then be recommended from among the nominations reviewed by the JpGU Fellowship Evaluation Committee, acting as an advisory body to the JpGU president.  Successful nominees shall be those from among the recommended nominations who are then approved by the JpGU Board of Directors. \r\n<br>\r\nThe number of Fellows is currently 109, which is about 1% of the total number of members (as agreed by the Board of Directors). Therefore, the number of Fellows for this year is expected to be about several persons.\r\n\r\n<br><br>\r\n\r\n<h4>1. JpGU Fellowship Nominees<\/h4>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent\">Individuals who have contributed to the field of geoscience by making significant discoveries or breakthroughs, instigating a paradigm shift in our understanding, or making other significant contributions to the development and dissemination of geoscientific knowledge in Japan. <\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\n<h4>2. Qualifications that should be met by JpGU Fellows<\/h4>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent\">It does not matter whether they have JpGU membership or not.<br>\r\nHowever, the following persons shall be unable to be nominated.<br>\r\n<ul class=\"jpgu-list1\">\r\n<li>Current JpGU Directors, Auditor, Section Presidents<\/li>\r\n<li>Members of the JpGU Fellowships Evaluation Committee<\/li>\r\n<\/ul><\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\n<h4>3. Nomination Format<\/h4>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent\">\r\nThe person who is making a JpGU Fellowship nomination shall do so by sending a written nomination to the JpGU President in which the following information (1)-(9) is contained by email.<br>\r\nthe candidate&#8217;s interest in receiving the Fellowship will need to be confirmed in advance.<\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(1) The name and contact details of the nominee and the nominator<br>\r\n* Please follow the format. >> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/information\/format\/2024fellow_contact_format_e.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Format Download <i style =\"text-indent:0em;\" class=\"fa fa-file-o\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><span> <\/a><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(2) The nominee&#8217;s history (Their special field, Their research history, Their awards history, Their contributions with regard to universities, research institutions and learned societies, etc.)<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(3) A list of five major original papers or patents, etc., of the nominee, along with the excerpts thereof<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(4) A list of all of their original papers.<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(5) A letter setting out the reasons for nomination (expressed in two A4 pages or less, in either Japanese or English)<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(6) Major achievements (either in English (less than 800 characters) or in Japanese (less than 400 characters))<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(7) Short citation<br>\r\n120 ~ 250 characters.<br>Please use the following format; &#8220;for outstanding contributions to (special fields, areas, etc.).&#8221;<br>\r\nPlease refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/jpgufellow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">JpGU Fellows<\/span><\/a>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent3-2 jpgu-pb1\">(8) Three letters of support of about one A4 page each, in either Japanese or English. Nomination<\/h4>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent\">Nomination must be sent within the nomination period for the applicable year in question.<!-- in the form of a word file(for \"(1) The name and contact details of the nominee and the nominator\") and a PDF file(other items), by email addressed to the Office for the JpGU Fellow (<span class=\"moz-txt-link-abbreviated\">fellow_office[at]jpgu.org<\/span>). JpGU Fellowship Presentation Ceremonies<\/h4>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent\">\r\nPresentation ceremonies for JpGU Fellowships shall be held at the JpGU Union Meeting, and medals shall be conferred upon the awardees.<\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n\r\n<h4>6. JpGU Fellowship Evaluation Committee<\/h4>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent\">\r\n<ul class=\"jpgu-list1\">\r\n<li>Members of the JpGU Fellowship Evaluation Committee shall be appointed by the President after deliberations by the Board of Directors.<\/li>\r\n<li>There shall be five members of the evaluation committee, with the term of Committee for each being two years. Each year, about half of their number shall be subject to reappointment.  <\/li>\r\n<li>Committee members shall be selected drawing on the JpGU membership.<\/li>\r\n<li>The committee chair shall be appointed by the JpGU President.<\/li>\r\n\r\n<li>The names of committee members shall be published at such times as when all of the committee members at the relevant year completed their terms of office. <\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/div><br>\r\n<h4>7. Acceptance Period for Nominations<\/h4>\r\n<div class=\"jpgu-indent\">From Noon on December 10 Sunday to Noon on December 20 Wednesday, 2023 (JST)<br><br>\r\nThe number of awards has increased since FY2024. We would like to set a submission period to prevent errors in document submission and confirmation.\r\nThank you for your understanding.\r\n<\/div><br>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4>8.
