{"id":2625,"date":"2020-09-29T14:16:52","date_gmt":"2020-09-29T05:16:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/?page_id=2625"},"modified":"2020-10-07T19:51:50","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T10:51:50","slug":"4th-nishida-prize","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/4th-nishida-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Regarding the 4th Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geo- and Planetary Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is now accepting recommendations for candidates for the 4th Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geo- and Planetary Science.<\/p>\r\n<p>JpGU has created the &#8220;Nishida Prize for Promotion of Geo- and Planetary&#8221; to honor internationally recognized Mid-career researchers under the age of 45 in 2020.<\/p>\r\n<p>The prize is named for member Prof. Atsuhiro Nishida (JpGU fellow), who provided a proposal and a donation in support.<\/p>\r\n<p>1. Recipient Qualifications<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">This prize is conferred upon researchers under the age of 45 as of the beginning of the judging period (April 1, 2020) who have provided an exceptional level of research in the field of Geo- and Planetary Science using a new approach, attaining international recognition. Decisions will not be made on the basis of nationality, sex, or whether one is a Japan Geoscience Union member or a non-member.<\/p>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>2. The number of winners<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">The selection committee will select 10 or less award winners.<\/p>\r\n<p>3. Recommendations<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 2em; text-indent: -1em;\">i. Candidates must be recommended to be considered for selection, and we will recognize recommendations from the candidate him or herself, as well as those from others who shall have held JpGU membership.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">If the candidate is recommended by someone else, the candidate&#8217;s interest in receiving the award will need to be confirmed in advance.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 1em;\"> ii. The following documentation is required for a recommendation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">Recommendations must be written in Japanese or English. (Both languages can appear in the same recommendation document.)<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(1)The candidate&#8217;s name and contact information (affiliated institution, address, telephone number, email address, and ORCID ID.)<br><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(2)If the candidate is a member of JpGU, the candidate&#8217;s ID, the principal section, and other related section(s).<br><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(3)The candidate&#8217;s work history and list of honors<br><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(4)A list of all reviewed publications and a supplement of the five most important. The five most important publications must be specified in the list<br><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(5)Reasons for recommendation (6 pages or fewer, A4 size)<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(6)Short citation<br><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:4em;text-indent:-1em;\">Please refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpgu.org\/en\/nishidaprize\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Introduction of Nishida Prize Winners<\/a><br><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(7)If the candidate is providing the recommendation, it must be written by the candidate him or herself, and if providing a recommendation for another, it must be written by recommender.<br>\r\n If the candidate is providing the recommendation, they must also send two letters of support, and if providing a recommendation for another, they must also provide letters of support from two others.<br>\r\n It does not matter whether who write letters of support have JpGU membership or not.<br><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">(8)If providing a recommendation for another, the person providing the recommendation must provide their contact information (address, telephone number, email address, etc.).<br><\/div>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 2em; text-indent: -1em;\">iii. Recommendations must be sent within the recommendation period for the year in question<!-- in the form of a word file and a PDF version thereof,--> in an email addressed to the Office for the Nishida Prize for the Promotion of Geo- and Planetary (nishidaprize_office[at]jpgu.org ). <!--Supplemental publications can be provided only in <br>PDF format.--> <\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 2em;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>&#8211; Please note that the mailing address is different from the previous one.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><br>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8211; If you do not receive email confirmation within one week after sending recommendation mail, please contact us to request confirmation of your recommendation. Without the email confirmation, your nomination will be invalid.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/p><br>\r\n<p>4. Selection Committee<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">Members of the JpGU Selection Committee shall be appointed by the President after deliberations by the Board of Directors.<\/div>\r\n<!--<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">The term of committee is from October, 2018  to March, 2019 and reappointment is allowed up to 4 years.<\/div>-->\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">Committee members shall be selected drawing on the JpGU membership while taking into consideration allocations of the different science sections. The number of members is around 15 .<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left:3em;text-indent:-1em;\">The names of committee members shall be published after winners are announced.<\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n<p>5. Schedule<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">Deadline of recommendation<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 3em;\">  December 15, 2020<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">Selection Period<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 3em;\">  December 16, 2020 &#8211; The day before the meeting of directors in March, 2021<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">Announcement of winners<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 3em;\">  After the meeting of directors<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">Award Ceremony<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 3em;\">  At 2021 JpGU Meeting<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">Commemorative lecture<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 3em;\">  At 2022 JpGU Meeting<\/div><br>\r\n<div style=\"padding-left: 2em;\">    *All dates are in JST.<\/div><br>\r\n<p>6. Method of Conferral<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 1em;\">i. An award certificate will be given.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 1em;\">ii.
