Union session should focus on topics with a broad interest from multiple fields of geoscience.
Conveners must select "Union Session" to propose a session as Union Session during the proposing process.
The Program Committee will review and accept or reject the proposal as Union Session. Sessions not approved as Union Session will be accepted as a regular scientific session.
Requirement for Proposal
・Union session should cover more than two (2) fields of geoscience.
・Union session should focus on topics that a high number of audiences can be expected.
・Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary (M) category must be selected as a session category to propose a Union session.
Proposal Steps
1. Propose a session from the JpGU online session proposal system.
2. Select 'Union Session' from the pulldown menu.
3. Enter all other required information and complete your proposal.
* Please make sure to select M (Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary) category.
If you choose a session category other than M, your proposal will not be considered as a Union request.
Requirements to Hold a Union Session
・Oral presentations should be no longer than two time slots.
・Invited authors are not exempt for all fees and procedures associated with the regular abstract submission and registration.
・The abstract submission deadline for Union sessions is the same as the regular final deadline. Late submissions are not accepted for any reason.
Benefits for Union Sessions
・The maximum number of oral slots assigned is 2 slots regardless of the number of submitted abstracts.
・There is no limit in the number of invited authors.
・The session may accept abstracts only from invited presenters.
・Union session can be an orals-only session.
・JpGU will promote the session in the publications and on the website.
・Conveners can request to send out necessary questionnaires etc. to hold their sessions via e-mail newsletter before the meeting.
・After the meeting, conveners can request to post reports and other information in the e-mail newsletter.
Important Notes
・One time slot is fixed to 90 minutes and this time frame CANNOT be changed/ extended. In the case there are poster presentations, each oral slot will be 75 minutes, and the remaining 15 minutes will be set for the flash talks by poster presenters.
・Either E session or J session can be the session language of Union session.
・JpGU provides no financial support for travel expenses, waiver or discount for abstract submission and registration fee to invited authors.
・All submitters including invited authors must complete the abstract submission and the payment of abstract submission fee before the submission deadline. Submissions without payments may be withdrawn. Please contact
JpGU Office in case the convener will cover any expense of the invited guest.
・Conveners may distribute session posters and brochures made on their own at the meeting site, however, JpGU does not intermediate nor volunteer to help any individual advertising activities.
・Session introductions and/or pictures of conveners may be asked to contribute a promotion material such as session introduction or conveners photos to be published in JGL and/ or other publications.
Contributors to Union Session
As described on the Benefits of Union Session, conveners may decide the contributors to their sessions if approved as Union Session.
The options are;
・The session accepts only invited abstracts submissions.
・The session accepts abstract submissions of oral presentation only from invited speakers, however, posters are accepted from any attendees.
・The session accepts abstract submissions from all attendees.
・The session only accepts abstract submissions for poster presentation, however any attendees may submit.
