Scope | The term Anthropocene represents the suite of human-induced changes that the planet is presently facing; it is a powerful concept that has had a remarkable impact in many disciplines. Both recognizing and managing this novel planetary situation in a sustainable way requires a network and accompanying knowledge framework. The recently installed UNESCO-IUGS IGCP732 engages new ideas and networks in the development of the Anthropocene concept by cooperating globally with scientists, especially those in developing and less developed countries, with the core aim to establish the Anthropocene as a fertile framework for future science. The project aims at developing a network of expertise and project partners and globally designing and collating an open database of existing information and expertise on the Anthropocene. We seek contributions on, but not limited to, the status of the regional and global Anthropocene and current initiatives for mitigating human-induced impacts. | |
