Scope | In a changing climate system, we need to prepare for and adapt to extreme events such as heavy rains and heat waves and the disasters that follow. To do so, it is important to improve the forecasts and to find pre-cursor signals. However, in order to link forecasts and climate signals to local disaster prevention, it is essential to accumulate historical data with the required resolution and/or accuracy. In addition, understanding the relationship between the meteorological data, other factors and disasters will enable us to assess the potential disaster risks in the coming months.
The Asia-Oceania region has common climate signals and extreme weather such as monsoon, ENSO and Typhoon, and also has high population density and disaster prone areas in common. Discussing together the data and indices, climate change and disaster research in the region will contribute to science and climate change adaptation and disaster prevention in the AOGS region.
In this session, we welcome presentations on the background of meteorological phenomena and prediction of disasters triggered by meteorological events, as well as researchers involved in the creation and evaluation of precise data, for an interactive discussion. | |
